Physical Activity Any kind of movement that uses up energy

Exercise Planned physical activity done regularly to build or maintain your fitness

Types of Exercise Aerobic- Rhythmic activity that uses large amounts of oxygen and works the heart and lungs

Types of Exercise Anaerobic- Intense physical activity that builds muscle but does not use large amounts of oxygen

Health Related Fitness: Four Elements of Fitness Endurance Strength Body Composition Flexibility

Endurance Heart and Lung Endurance- how well your heart and lungs work when you exercise and how quickly they return to normal when you stop Muscle Endurance- the ability of a muscle to repeatedly use force over a period of time

Strength Muscle Strength measures the most weight you can lift

Body Composition Measure of how much of your weight is lean tissue instead of body fat Depends partly on the genes you inherit from your parents, how much you eat, and how physically active you are

Flexibility The ability of your body’s joints to move easily through a full range of motion
