Winter Wonderland   Book Display Winter themed books will be on display for students to read/ check out. Biography Lesson   Library Lesson Students will learn about Biography books. They will listen to a book about Martin L. King Jr. and will have opportunities to check out Biography books. January 20 Author of the Month Students will learn about the author of the Month, Tedd Arnold, and will have an opportunity to check out books.

The first week of school / back to school activity for New Years students draw their selfie (self portrait) onto a smart phone template handout. They then select from the variety of text message (writing prompts) and answer questions for back to school / New Year. 01-09-17 to 01-13-2017 New Year’s Resolution Activities: New Year’s Reading Challenge Students will participate in a 2017 Reading Challenge that will allow them to explore new reading materials. They will be given 12 different categories as guides to choose 12 different books in 1 month. 01-16-17 to 01-20-17 Research It! Facts about January. Activities: Task Cards will be placed around the library with interesting facts that took place in history the month of January. Students will have the opportunity to grab a task card with the mission to complete a task. Each of the task cards states one fact about the month of January and then asks three questions pertinent to that fact. Each question can easily be researched and facts can be found in an encyclopedia, Makanvia or though the world wide web. 01-23-17 to 01-27-17 Remembering Martin Luther King Jr.  Activities: Learn about the life of MLK by reading biographies available at the library Students will learn about the life of MLK Jr. by reading his biography from our biography section of the library. Students will be reminded on how to correctly use a shelf marker and why it is that we use it.

Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Day Challenge Campus activity Students count the days between Martin Luther King Jr. Day and Valentine’s Day and are challenged to complete 100 acts of kindness during that time. They also select a service project to plan and complete together as a class and families are encouraged to help report acts of kindness. The project culminates on Valentine’s Day. January 25 Parent Workshop (9:00-11:00 A.M.) Parents will be invited to a workshop that will include topics that are relevant for their children in school such as how to help with academia, attendance, student handbook, STAAR and other topics. Will invite various experts to present. January 27-February 2, 2016 Celebrating Chinese New Year (Web Quest and book display) It is a wonderful thing about the human spirit. Celebration of life is a beautiful thing. It is inherent in all human beings to spend time enjoying the company of other people. Yes, family and friends are the reason why Chinese New Year is not only significant for the Chinese community, but also for anyone lucky enough to experience the festivities from the outside.
