1984

1984 and Animal Farm The story of 1984 by George Orwell is similar of his book Animal Farm because it is also about war and rebellion. 1984 is based in 1984 after a war, based around Winston Smith, after a global atomic war, we see the world through his perception of life in England. He lives in one of the three superstates which are all fighting for the remainder of the lands of the world. This is much like animal farm in that we can see that all the animals fight the humans to the right to the land. 1984 is also based around the civil war as well as Animal Farm.

1984 and Animal Farm Big brother is the leader of the land, but you never see him, he has followers; inner party, outer party and the proles. This is much like Napoleon, further into the book we never see him and he has followers (the puppies). Winston has been placed in an orphanage by the Ingsoc movement; he is there for training and subsequent employment as an Outer party civil servant. This is like Snowball in a way, after a while all his ideas of doing good for the animal kind, he gets thrown out. Winston rebels and keeps a diary of all the terrible thoughts he has of Big Brother and the Party. Overall this book is about rebellion and war, much like Animal Farm.

Homage to Catalonia

Homage to Catalonia and Animal Farm Homage to Catalonia is similar to Animal Farm in the sense that it is about war and fascism. Homage to Catalonia is a non-fiction novel, regarding Orwell’s personal experiences during his time served in the Spanish Civil War. Orwell has loosely based the Character of Snowball from Animal Farm on himself, as you can see right from the beginning of both novels that they bare resemblances to each other. In the beginning of the novel, George Orwell goes to Barcelona, willing joining the smaller party, to fight a war against fascism.

Homage to Catalonia and Animal Farm Snowball also choses to back the smaller side of the war against the fascist regime. When the party that Orwell was fighting for was declared an illegal organisation, he was given no choice but to be imprisoned, or flee. Snowball was also faced with the same choice when the animals he was fighting with turned against him. Homage to Catalonia and Animal Farm are also both based on a civil war. Homage to Catalonia is about war and fascism, much the same as Animal Farm, to the extent that you can see many similarities between Orwell and Snowball.
