Committee Focus Seminar: Strategic Planning 2/11/17

Puddles and Oceans What are some things you are celebrating in your area? What are any “puddle-like” areas (obstacles, limitations) you feel your team is sitting in that may limit your growth into the next stage for your ministry?

Step 1: The Launch Key Strategy Team meets Poll the community Set timeline for strategic planning Begin crafting your area’s Long-Range Objective (LRO) Poll the community SWOT (key Leaders, Committee, Donors, Campaigner kids, Friends of YL) Club SWOT at Leadership, Campaigners Evaluations, Club Google Form Involve the Committee and Leadership teams Share summary of SWOT results Poll them about their big dreams for the area and their team Begin identifying the area Dream Team

Step 1: The Launch Key Strategy Team meets again Plan the details of the Vision Night Set the first draft of the LRO Finalize the area Dream Team and invite to Vision Night Propose the LRO to Committee and Leadership teams

What are your big dreams for your YL area?

Step 2: The Vision Night Key Strategy Team and Dream Team come together Everyone arrives having considered key questions… What are the 3 (or so) most 'mission critical' area values, principles, and/or characteristics essential for our area to continue to grow? How are we intentionally reaching out to groups of kids who look different, act different, come from different backgrounds than who we are reaching now?

Step 2: The Vision Night Desired outcome for the evening: Finalize the Long-Range Objective Begin roughing-in Key Strategies Set-up deeper involvement with individuals in the community Questions you are not trying to answer at this point: Setting Goals and determining Measures Precise “job roles” Another SWOT Analysis

Vision Night Proposed Agenda Dinner together/Share connection to the team Committee Chair Scriptural focus Area Director Area Report Facilitator shares limited goal for the night Small group (prearranged) and large group interaction What are your Dreams for the area? Does the LRO fit? Revisions? What are some Key Strategies to accomplish this LRO? How can you contribute?

Who would you invite to a Vision Night? Jot down actual names! Your Vision Night Who would you invite to a Vision Night? Jot down actual names!

Step 3: Vision Night Follow-Up Key Strategy Team meets again Firm up Key Strategies Propose Goals and Measures Plan appropriate follow-up with specific Dream Team members

Step 4: Dream Team Follow-Up Re-gather Dream Team to present: Final LRO (if changes during Vision Night) Key Strategies, Goals, and Measures that reflect the team vision Some people already plugged into certain roles OR could alternatively present at Committee/Leadership meetings Ask everyone: Any final tweaks needed? What gets you most excited about this? Where do you see yourself playing a role?

Step 5: The Landing Promoting, engaging, implementing with entire YL Area Helpful documents for promotion and execution Case statement Financial dashboard Revised “Committee Roles and Responsibilities” sheet Real Area Examples

Final Words Where resources can be found Printed examples as you leave chesapeakebayregion.younglife.org Engaging more of the community to… Glorify God Reach more kids Reach more kinds of kids Go deeper in discipleship with kids
