Controlled assessments (60% of final grade) Most pupils have now completed controlled assessments in writing and speaking. The writing and speaking controlled assessments are each worth 30% of the final grade. Some pupils are retaking these assessments to improve their grades. If these have not yet been completed, it is essential that these are done as soon as possible in order to maximise time for revision. Details of support sessions are in the hand out. Language teachers are also often available at lunchtimes and after school.

General tips for the reading and listening exams Learn vocabulary – use vocabulary lists that you have been given, as well as links to Memrise and Quizlet, which you should use to help you learn this vocabulary. Do the reading and listening exercises in the Edexcel GCSE Revision Workbook to develop your reading and listening skills. You could also read articles of interest online, listen to online radio or watch videos on Youtube in the language you are learning.

Revision resources Useful sites to revise GCSE MFL These are interactive websites to help you revise, where you can play games and complete activities online for immediate feedback. There are many other websites and apps available for language learners.

Revision resources www.duolingo.com - 1000s of words to learn and revise in a fun way. There is an app as well as the website – you can join the school group here: www.duolingo.com/o/wpucku . www.oye.languageskills.co.uk/index.html - Good revision for German, Spanish and French. www.quizlet.com - Search for GCSE Edexcel along with the name of the language you are studying and the topic you want to learn. Also look out for specific links sent by your teacher on show my homework. Use the flashcards and learn the words using a variety of games and activities. You can also create your own sets of flashcards. www.memrise.com - Search for the Edexcel GCSE courses to learn vocabulary. www.funwithlanguages.vacau.com/ www.goethe-verlag.com/tests - Fantastic for practising gap-fill exercises. www.languagesonline.org.uk - Online practice of vocabulary as well as audio clips. www.bbc.co.uk/schools/gcsebitesize - Really useful to practise listening and reading at foundation and higher level. www.bbc.co.uk/languages - In particular, look at mi vida loca for Spanish. www.yjc.org.uk - For German revision. www.fluentu.com - A range of useful videos for language learners. http://www.s-cool.co.uk/gcse http://slowgerman.com/ - Excellent website for German listening.

Revision resources For French, German and Spanish, pupils should all have a revision guide and a revision workbook. These are the most useful revision resources as they contain reading and listening questions on all topics that will be studied in the exams as well as worked examples. For Mandarin, Miss Li is regularly posting listening and reading activities on show my homework.
