Academic Integrity Note from Director of FOIPOP* & Academic Integrity: Academic Integrity is paramount at UFV. Student academic misconducts such as cheating or plagiarizing are taken very seriously at our university. Penalties can include: a score of zero for the assignment or exam; grade reduction or no credit for the course; and in some cases suspension or expulsion from the university. Please see UFV Policy 70 – Student Academic Misconduct: www.ufv.ca/ai *Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act UFV’s Academic Success Centre provides guides and assistance on proper citing and referencing to avoid plagiarism.

Academic Integrity: Tips for Success Be honest! If in doubt talk to your instructor. Use support services at the Academic Success Centre. www.ufv.ca/asc Take excellent notes while doing your research. Educate other students about the importance of academic integrity and the consequences of academic misconduct. Familiarize yourself with UFV’s policy on Academic Misconduct. www.ufv.ca/ai Honesty is really the best policy; don’t be afraid to say that you don’t know or understand something. Your instructors can help you understand assignments and can answer questions about academic work. The Academic Success Centre has print and web resources available free of charge. The Peer Tutors working there have a lot of experience and training to help you avoid mistakes such as plagiarism. There are ASC offices on both Abbotsford and Chilliwack campuses. Record the bibliographical details of the sources you use as you use them (as you won’t remember later and it’s no fun trying to find them at the last minute!) Whether you’re working on a group project or studying with a friend, help others maintain academic integrity. Talking about what you know can also help you understand it better. Know our policy. There are several web pages with useful information and links to other resources.
