Leading Worship

Leading worship is not It is not being able to play an instrument or sing. It is not about you and what you can or cannot do. It is not a show or a performance It is not something that man can orchestrate or plan on his own.

C. Peter Wagner Definition “the special ability that God gives to certain members of the Body of Christ to accurately discern the heart of God for a particular public worship service, to draw others into an intimate experience of God during the worship time and to allow the Holy Spirit to change directions and emphases as the service progresses.”

Being able to accurately discern the heart of God.

"We have two ears and one mouth so that we can listen twice as much as we speak."

“My dear brothers, take note of this: Everyone should be quick to listen, slow to speak.“ James 1:19 “He who answers before listening-that is his folly and his shame.” Proverbs 18:13

“to draw others into an intimate experience with God during worship time”

“All Scripture is God-breathed and useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness, so that the man of God may be thoroughly equipped for ever good work.” 2 Timothy 3: 16-17

“I will extol the Lord at all times; his praise will always be on my lips.” Psalm 34:1 “Sing to the Lord, all the earth; proclaim his salvation day after day. Declare his glory among the nations, his marvelous deeds among all peoples. For great is the Lord and most worthy of praise; he is to be feared above all gods.” 1 Chronicles 16:23-25

“to allow the Holy Spirit to change directions and emphases as the service/life progresses.”

Leading worship requires Putting aside all of our own agendas and plans “Many are the plans in a man’s heart but it is the Lord’s purpose that prevails.” Proverbs 19:21

“Now listen, you who say, “Today or tomorrow we will go to this or that city, spend a year there, carry on business and make money.” Why, you do not even know what will happen tomorrow. What is your life? You are a mist that appears for a little while and then vanishes. Instead, you ought to say, ‘If it is the Lord’s will, we will live and do this or that.'” James 4:13-15

Remove the fear of the unknown and lay it at the foot of the cross “There is no fear in love. But perfect love drives out fear,” 1 John 4:18

“Strengthen the feeble hands, steady the knees that give way; say to those with fearful hearts, “Be strong, do not fear; your God will come, he will come with vengeance; with divine retribution, he will come to save you.” Isaiah 35:3-4

“So do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.” Isaiah 41:10 “Cast your cares on the Lord and he will sustain you; he will never let the righteous fall.” Psalm 55:22

Be Still and Wait for His Instructions “Be still, and know that I am God; I will be exalted among the nations, I will be exalted in the earth.” Psalm 46:10

“Wait for the Lord; be strong and take heart and wait for the Lord “Wait for the Lord; be strong and take heart and wait for the Lord.” Psalm 27:14

“I waited patiently for the Lord; he turned to me and heard my cry “I waited patiently for the Lord; he turned to me and heard my cry. He lifted me out of the slimy pit, out of the mud and mire; he set my feet on a rock and gave me a firm place to stand He put a new song in my mouth, a hymn of praise to our God. Many will see and fear and put their trust in the Lord.” Psalm 40:1-3

Out of the depths I cry to you, Lord; Lord, hear my voice Out of the depths I cry to you, Lord; Lord, hear my voice. Let your ears be attentive to my cry for mercy. If you, Lord, kept a record of sins, Lord, who could stand? But with you there is forgiveness so that we can, with reverence, serve you.

I wait for the Lord, my whole being waits, and in his word I put my hope. I wait for the Lord more than watchmen wait for the morning, more than watchmen wait for the morning. Israel, put your hope in the Lord, for with the Lord is unfailing love and with him is full redemption. He himself will redeem Israel from all their sins. Psalm 130

Worship in SPIRIT and in TRUTH

“Yet the Lord longs to be gracious to you; he rises to show you compassion. For the Lord is a God of justice. Blessed are those who wait for him!” Isaiah 30: 18
