Y6 Residential: York 3rd-5th July 2017 Parent/Carer meeting Thursday 15 June 2017 3.30 pm

Planning The school must submit all documentation to Clive Atkins, outdoor education advisor for Waltham Forest. Prue Barnes-Kemp and Lisa McIntyre completed a risk assessment in York (full assessment of accommodation, visited all attractions, walked the routes etc.) Put together an itinerary which encompasses back up plans.

Itinerary Monday 3rd July: Children to meet at Highams Park Station carpark at 7:00am. We will take the train to Liverpool Street and change for Kings Cross. Leave on 9:08am train from London Kings Cross. If your child suffers from travel sickness, give non-drowsy travel sickness tablets in the morning. Arrive in York at approximately 11:30am. Make way to accommodation, unpack and have lunch. Visit to York Minster. Treasure Hunt challenge Dinner Walls walk Dinner Nando’s children have pre-selected meal.

Itinerary Tuesday 4th July: Breakfast/make packed lunch Activities include: Castle Museum, Viking Workshop, shopping, social time, games Dinner Should it rain Edinburgh museum, Museum of childhood, Museum of Scotland

Itinerary Wednesday 5th July: Breakfast/ make packed lunch Pack up apartments, leave bags in storage. Activities include: Railway Museum Shopping time Leave York at 2:02pm Arrive at London Kings Cross at 4:25pm Arrive at Highams Park station at approximately 5:45-6:00pm Children to be collected from the car park at the station.

Accommodation The Fort Hostel Separate section of hostel, private key code 2 x levels Level 1 – Girls. 2x 8 bed dorms. Shared bathrooms. 1x adult room for female staff Level 2 – Boys. 1x 6 bed dorm. 2 x twin rooms. 1x adult room – male staff Group size 1x15 and 3x16

What to pack? 2 Water bottles Packed lunch for train journey (disposable) no sweets, fizzy drinks Book/ card game (not playing cards) (for train journey) Trainers 2 pairs of trousers- jeans, leggings or track suit bottoms 2 T-shirts 2 jumpers/ hoodies Pyjamas/ slippers Underwear x5 Waterproof jacket with hood, scarf, gloves (if the weather forecast is for cold weather) Cap/ hat (in case of sunshine) Toiletries- toothbrush and toothpaste/ soap etc. Small towel £15 pocket money (maximum) (2x £5.00, 4x£1.00, 4x20p and 2x10p) Camera- optional (disposable or digital, if digital, please ensure the camera is clearly labelled- NO MOBILE PHONES) A small back pack will be useful to carry packed lunch, water etc during the day. Full home address, 1st class stamp and pen Medication- given to Ms. McIntyre on Friday 30 June morning at 8.45am / 3.30pm (travel sickness if required)   *Bedding is provided in the apartment *Mobile phones or electronic games are not allowed. Pupils will be required to carry their own bag on/off the train and whilst walking to/from the apartments. A small case with wheels is therefore advised. All children are responsible for their own belongings throughout the duration of the trip. Sunblock cream No mid-night snacks Choking , allergic reactions

Keeping in contact: Regular contact will be made with the school via telephone. Updates will be put on the website. http://www.oakhillschool.org.uk/ Phone calls must not be made to the school office for updates, unless in an emergency. In an emergency- contact the school office, who will then contact us.

Preparing your child... Behaviour: expectations are the same as in school, irresponsible and poor behaviour will not be tolerated and children will be escorted home, if necessary.(The cost of this will be paid for by the parent) Bed times and sleeping expectations- strictly adhered to. Being tolerant of each other. Managing time and belongings. Reassuring your child about who to go to for help/ if they are worried. No mid-night snacks or sharing food.

Last but not least... Completed medical forms and menu choices returned to the school office by Thursday 22nd June 2017. Children will not be permitted on the residential without a correctly completed medical form Questions? A few days before parents will receive a letter to remind them of times.
