Presentation transcript:

Chapters 9-10 – “What About Israel?” Chapter 9 – Emphasizes God’s Sovereignty Chapter 10 – Emphasizes Man’s Responsibility. Our Election is UNCONDITIONAL. BUT Our Judgment is CONDITIONAL.

For Moses writes about the righteousness that is based on the law, that the person who does the commandments shall live by them. 6 But the righteousness based on faith says, “Do not say in your heart, ‘Who will ascend into heaven?’” (that is, to bring Christ down) Romans 10:5-6 ESV

7 “or ‘Who will descend into the abyss 7 “or ‘Who will descend into the abyss?’” (that is, to bring Christ up from the dead). 8 But what does it say? “The word is near you, in your mouth and in your heart” (that is, the word of faith that we proclaim); Romans 10:7-8 ESV

9 because, if you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. 10 For with the heart one believes and is justified, and with the mouth one confesses and is saved. Romans 10:9-10 ESV

11 For the Scripture says, “Everyone who believes in him will not be put to shame.” 12 For there is no distinction between Jew and Greek; for the same Lord is Lord of all, bestowing his riches on all who call on him. 13 For “everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved.” Romans 10:11-13 ESV

14 How then will they call on him in whom they have not believed 14 How then will they call on him in whom they have not believed? And how are they to believe in him of whom they have never heard? And how are they to hear without someone preaching? 15 And how are they to preach unless they are sent? As it is written, “How beautiful are the feet of those who preach the good news!” Romans 10:14-15 ESV

16 But they have not all obeyed the gospel 16 But they have not all obeyed the gospel. For Isaiah says, “Lord, who has believed what he has heard from us?” 17 So faith comes from hearing, and hearing through the word of Christ. Romans 10:16-17 ESV

But I ask, have they not heard But I ask, have they not heard? Indeed they have, for “Their voice has gone out to all the earth, and their words to the ends of the world.” 19 But I ask, did Israel not understand? First Moses says, “I will make you jealous of those who are not a nation; with a foolish nation I will make you angry.” Romans 10:18-19 ESV

Then Isaiah is so bold as to say, “I have been found by those who did not seek me; I have shown myself to those who did not ask for me.” 21 But of Israel he says, “All day long I have held out my hands to a disobedient and contrary people.” Romans 10:20-21 ESV

Religious Zeal Without Proper Knowledge will Not Save You. Romans 10:5-21: “Salvation Without Limits” Religious Zeal Without Proper Knowledge will Not Save You. (Vs. 1-4)

6 And the Lord your God will circumcise your heart and the heart of your offspring, so that you will love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul, that you may live. 7 And the Lord your God will put all these curses on your foes and enemies who persecuted you. Deuteronomy 30:6-7 ESV

11 “For this commandment that I command you today is not too hard for you, neither is it far off. 12 It is not in heaven, that you should say, ‘Who will ascend to heaven for us and bring it to us, that we may hear it and do it?’ 13 Neither is it beyond the sea, that you should say, ‘Who will go over the sea for us and bring it to us, that we may hear it and do it?’ 14 But the word is very near you. It is in your mouth and in your heart, so that you can do it.” Deuteronomy 30:11-14 ESV

II. Righteousness by Faith is not easily accepted. Romans 10:5-21: “Salvation Without Limits” II. Righteousness by Faith is not easily accepted. (Vs. 5-8)

The Means of Salvation (vs. 9-10) Romans 10:5-21: “Salvation Without Limits” What did Israel Miss? The Means of Salvation (vs. 9-10) “confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord.” “believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead” The Intended Beneficiaries of Salvation (vs 11-13)

III. Salvation is found through the Proclamation of God’s Word. Romans 10:5-21: “Salvation Without Limits” III. Salvation is found through the Proclamation of God’s Word. (Vs. 14-17)

3 Keys to Effective Evangelism (vs. 14-17) Romans 10:5-21: “Salvation Without Limits” 3 Keys to Effective Evangelism (vs. 14-17) Effective Evangelism requires persistence. Effective Evangelism requires words. Effective Evangelism requires us! (Cf. 2 Corinthians 5:17-20, Ephesians 4:11-12)
