Homework Book Rule 1: Kids only Rule 2: Assignments completed daily Rule 3: Pencil for printing and crayons for pictures Formatting: Spacing Correct formation Modeling Consistency Must Be Returned Daily!

Agenda Parent/teacher communication Important information, questions and concerns Call or email if you have questions Must Be Returned Daily!

Pocket Folder Organization Make sure your child’s backpack is big enough to fit the folder without bending it. Must Be Returned Daily!

Homework Schedule Beginning of September to mid September Practice Strokes Late September to Late January single graphemes February to June double graphemes

What is a Grapheme A grapheme is a letter or a combination of letters Each grapheme can represent more than one sound Each sound can be represented by more than one grapheme Two graphemes will be taught each week How graphemes are printed is important- continuous line

Proper Formation of the Letters c, a, o, d, g, qu – 2 o`clock letters i, r, n, m, j, p, u – dotted-middle line letters l, h, b, k, t, f – top base line letters v, w, x, y – diagonal letters e, s, z – rogue letters

Grapheme Sounds f, l, m, n, r, s, v, x and z are continuous sounds All other letter sounds are non-continuous

Sound Muncher Required part of the homework assignment…all children are expected to participate Reinforces learning Children search for the items that they want to bring Children love it!

Homework Experience Should look like: a clean, comfortable, quiet and organized space with learning materials readily available (ie. pencil, eraser, crayons, etc.) Should sound like: discussion of letter formations and sounds, encouraging words Should feel like: A special sharing time for both you and your child

Homework Example Monday, September 26th: a. Trace one line of ‘c.’ b. Print one line of ‘c.’ Say the ‘c’ sounds as they print it. Tuesday, September 27th: c. Draw and color a picture (using crayons) of something that starts with the letter ‘c.’

Homework Example Wednesday, September 28th: a. Trace one line of ‘o.’ b. Print one line of ‘o.’ Say the ‘c’ sounds as they print it. Thursday, September 29th: c. Draw and color a picture (using crayons) of something that starts with the sound and letter ‘o.’
