Persecution Begins -Anti-Jewish sentiments for many centuries all over the world -Hitler’s “Mein Kampf” blamed Jews for Germany’s problems: Great Depression, & many G’s are easily convinced -Nuremburg Laws took away civil rights of Jews Star of David -Kristallnacht, 1938 “Night of Broken Glass” destruction of Jewish property & synagogues across Germany

Persecution Begins -Anti-Jewish sentiments for many centuries -Hitler’s “Mein Kampf” blamed Jews for Germany’s problems -Nuremburg Laws took away civil rights of Jews Star of David -Kristallnacht, 1938 destruction of Jewish proerty

Jewish Refugees -after Hitler’s election, many Jews fled Germany- G wanted them to GET OUT! -U.S. was one of many nations not accepting many Jewish refugees why? Depression, seen as a threat Albert Einstein 100,000 GB: 80,000 F: already had taken in 40,000 -Why did others not leave??? 1. Depression 2. This won’t happen to me

Final Solution : Genocide: deliberate killing of an entire population -1939 decision to rid Europe of all Jews and other undesirables, why? Only 250,000 remained in G, but many others had traveled to other nations G now Occupied – to purify master race - Began in Poland w/ SS “Security Squadrons” rounding up Jews -concentration camps set up across Europe (Labor Camps/ Death Camps) -many sent to slave labor camps -others were simply killed or experimented upon “Angel of Death”- Josef Mengele: Auschwitz

Death Camps -as war went badly for Germany, they tried to speed Final Solution -building of several death camps to execute Jews with poison gas- kill up to 12,000 a day Poland had 6 death camps -bodies were then buried in mass graves or burned -Auschwitz -Belzec -Buchenwald
