About Mission Statement UC Sustainability represents the diverse and interdisciplinary sustainability movements at the University of Cincinnati. Mission Statement Recognizing its environmental stewardship role, the University of Cincinnati seeks to incorporate the concept of sustainability into its academic and research programs; the design, operation, and maintenance of its buildings and landscapes; and its organizational structure and management; while preserving safety and comfort.

PACES + THE OFFICE OF SUSTAINABILITY Office of Sustainability With a history of environmental engagement on campus dating back to the 1960s, the Office of Sustainability was created in 2010 within the Department of Planning + Design + Construction with links to Utilities and Facilities Management. The Office of Sustainability creates unique programming for students, introduces and assists staff working on sustainability initiatives, and coordinates with faculty on sustainability related projects. Recycling

Lecture Series Monthly public lectures showcasing academic research at UC, connecting to Cincinnati green businesses and organizations, and expanding student interest and research opportunities.

Film Series Our Sustainability Film Series tie together social, ecological & economic elements, which are the pillars of sustainability. Post film discussions hosted further the conversation and discourse illustrated in the films.

Workshop Series + Tours Workshops teach new skills with hands on demonstrations Tours of local sustainability-related sites allow students to see sustainable projects in person, providing new insight and real world experience

Environmental Literacy Certificate of Achievement Students who regularly attend Office of Sustainability programming can now earn an Environmental Literacy Certificate of Achievement and will be listed on our website. A second program for staff has also been created. A small group of staff members meet monthly to discuss various topics in sustainability. After a year of monthly meetings, participants will earn an Environmental Literacy Certificate of Achievement.

Student Sustainability Summit The Office of Sustainability has partnered with Student Government to organize the Student Sustainability Summit. At this weekend-long retreat, students attend skill building workshops, listen to guest speakers, and create action-oriented plans for campus sustainability projects. This year’s Summit took place at Hueston Woods State Park and was attended by over 60+ students.

UC Garden Educational gardening space, a partnership with the UC Early Learning Center, provides students with hands on exposure to gardening, urban agriculture and fresh produce.

Bearcat Bike Share Free bike rental, available at the CRC, for anyone with a UC ID for up to 3 days at a time, engages UC in active transportation and physical fitness

UC Bike Kitchen Trained student bike mechanics, part of the Sustainability Advocate team, provide regular maintenance for Bearcat Bike Share and host open shop hours when anyone can bring his/her bike in for help

SACUB Makes Our Programs Possible The funding we receive from SACUB primarily goes to paying the Sustainability Advocates, the lifeblood of our programs. Without funding from SACUB, none of our initiatives would be possible.
