Presentation transcript:

LEARNING OBJECTIVES At the end of the discussion, students will be able to: recall the definition of still pictures, paintings and posters through review questions; list the different types of paintings and collages; explain their importance in instruction and information; and use these materials in the future classroom setting.

1 STILL PICTURES Two-dimensional, visual representation of persons, places, and/or things. Most commonly, it is a photograph but it may be a sketch, mural, poster, chart, cartoon, graph, or map. It can be used by students for individual study, for aesthetic purposes in the classroom, for display in bulletin boards, for utilization in study centers and exhibits, and for projection onto a screen when groups of students need to look and study one or several pictures at the same time.

STILL PICTURES

2 PAINTINGS A painting is an image (artwork) created using pigments (color) on a surface (ground) such as paper or canvas. The pigment may be in a wet form, such as paint, or a dry form, such as pastels.

Portrait A painting of a person. Usually the head and shoulders. It can also be just the head or the whole body. Often captures mood or personality.

Self-Portrait A painting of the artist himself.

Still Life A painting of a group of inanimate objects, a bowl of fruit, flowers etc. A Still-Life reveals an Artist's skill in painting shapes, light and shadow.

Interior A painting, drawing or photograph of the inside of a room or a building.

Seascape A painting of the sea.

Cityscape A painting of the city.

Real-Life Scene captures life in action. It could show a busy street, a beach party, a dinner gathering, or anyplace where living goes on.

Abstract A non-representational painting, (not like a photograph). It uses the elements of design to express the essence of a subject or idea.

3 POSTERS Posters are “public” piece of paper conveying information through text (words) and/or graphic images (symbols or pictures). It’s usually designed to be displayed vertically on a wall or window and is large enough to be seen and read from a relatively short distance. Its main target audience is the person walking by. A poster must convey its message with immediacy and purpose, because people on the street are often in a hurry.

POSTERS

4 COLLAGES Collage derives its name from the French verb coller, to glue. The work of art is made by gluing things to the surface. Collage became an art form during the Synthetic Cubist period of Pablo Picasso and Georges Braque.

Types of Collages

Photo Collages These are the most popular types of collage. They are put together through the use of photos and sticking them to one surface.

Mosaic The pieces are often in random broken pieces and are easy to maneuver into a piece of art. Others include paper, marble, stone and more. You can find these types of collage in cathedrals, churches and temples.

3-Dimensional Collage 3D Collage art is placing 3D items on a surface and creating something new. Some items that can be used are: rocks, beads, coins, buttons, sticks, new and old objects.

Paint Collage This is one of the easiest types of collage. It can start off basic and can get more complex as the artist develops their skills.

Wood Collage It uses different types of wood, rather than the other mediums, to create a piece.

Decoupage This is the technique of using cut-outs of paper, linoleum, plastic, or other flat materials gluing them to a surface and covering them with lacquer or varnish.

Fabric Collage You create the collage with the fabric. The fabric can be cut into many shapes and stuck down on a surface.

IMPORTANCE FOR INSTRUCTION AND INFORMATION Posters, Collages and Paintings are significant for educational purposes because they are used to transmit data visually. Data and information are presented through textual and graphical presentation. For students, it is easy for them to understand the concept if they can see the picture of particular information introduced.

IMPORTANCE FOR INSTRUCTION AND INFORMATION They represent an experience They make learning more meaningful. They enhance creativity.
