Circle of Independent Learning Split Day Orientation Meeting 2016-2017 School Year

What is Split-Day? Taking courses at a student’s school of residence within the Fremont Unified School District (grades 7-12) COIL student participates in a class at their local school of resident during the traditional school day and through out the regular school calendar of the school Participating in Regional Occupational Programs (ROP) through Mission Valley ROP (MVROP) (grades 9-12) Students participate in Vocational courses offered at MVROP and if space is available, at High School’s throughout the FUSD Courses typically 2 hour daily courses and run throughout the regular school calendar for FUSD

What is Split-Day? Taking courses at a local community college (grades 9-12) With approval of COIL Administration and Advisory Teacher, students participate in College courses at any local community college (via College Early Start Program) Upon successful completion and official transcript, college credits are applied to student transcript and credits are counted towards graduation requirements Taking courses through a privately funded course provider Students enroll in and pay for courses through a private course provider that is accredited Upon completion of course, a transcript is issued by the provider and credits are issued on the students COIL transcript and graduation requirements

Split-Day Requirements: Must maintain at least 20 credit units or equivalent to 4 courses at all times at and offered by COIL Limited to 2 “Split-Day” courses per semester Must be in good academic standing (not on Advisory Intervention or Academic Probation) Must adhere to the daily attendance requirement and all applicable behavioral, academic and attendance policies of the Split-Day school program and COIL

Process for Taking a Course at School of Residence Taking a course at local school of residence Intent form with courses requested noted Approval from COIL and letter from COIL to resident school Completion of all enrollment paperwork at school of residence Continuous attendance and academic performance

Process for Taking a College Courses Taking 1 or 2 courses at a local Community College Completion of Early College Form Completion of Reimbursement Form (if applicable) Approval from COIL and Advisory Teacher Completion of all enrollment paperwork from Community College Continuous attendance and academic performance

Process for Taking a MVROP Course Participating in Mission Valley ROP Courses Completion of Intent to Register Form Approval from COIL and Advisory Teacher Completion of MV ROP Application form Commitment to and Continuous attendance and academic performance

Process for taking courses through Privately funded course providers Must be an accredited educational institution Must be pre-reviewed with Advisory Teacher Upon completion, student submits a sealed transcript from the private institution or the private institution sends a transcript directly to COIL registrar Upon validation, credits will be applied to the student transcript

Summary Diversity of Options for COIL students Must maintain full time status with COIL by having a minimum of 20 credits or 4 COIL courses at all times. Remain in Good Academic Standing Proactively seek out assistance Sign up early and don’t procrastinate
