CHOOSING A VOCATION By Adeline P. dela Cruz

1. INTELLECTUAL CAPACITY & APTITUDE Choose a field that best fits your intellec- tual ability. If you excel in math, take up engineering or acctg. If you excel in reason- ing take up law. If you like science take up medicine.

2. INTEREST INTEREST – is the intentness of an indi- vidual about some- thing. Choose a field that is within your range of interest.

3. EDUCATION The level of education that is required of the career aspired for should be considered. Do you have what it takes to finish the course?

4. TEMPERAMENT Temperamental who easily get rattled should choose jobs that are quiet, peaceful & without much conflict. One who has no patience for child- ren should not take up teaching.

5. PHYSICAL STRENGTH One should choose a career that suits his physical health & strength. One who is not physically strong should not join the armed forces.

6. OPPORTUNITIES FOR EMPLOYMENT Chances of employment are high where work force is not saturated & vice versa. This should guide the student in his choice of career.

7. REMUNERATION Is the salary satisfac- tory? If not choose one that gives the most satisfactory remune- ration under the circumstances.

8. HAZARDS Some occupations are more hazardous than others such as aviation, army, police or marine work. One most likely chooses the least hazardous.

9. PLACE OF WORK Is the work confined within a room or in the open air. Does it involve too much travel? Does the work necessitate being too far away from home & family? Introverts prefer quiet surroundings whereas extroverts prefer interaction with people and travel.

*CONCLUSION* Generally one should choose a career that can give him or her d most job satisfaction. Hence all the factors given above must be considered in choosing a career.
