Experience: Audience Etiquette The Little Mermaid with Le Theatre de Marionette Experience: Audience Etiquette The characters, or actors, you will see in the performance are not real but the puppeteers who operate them are! The puppeteers, though you cannot see them are very aware of their audience and respond to every movement and sound. When the audience laughs or claps, the puppeteers are encouraged! A talking or moving audience is a rude audience, and puppeteers get very frustrated because they feel as though no one is paying attention. Listening is also very important, remember the puppet show is LIVE. There is no stop or rewind, real people move the puppets, say the words, and changing the scenery and lights. Experience: Audience Etiquette The Little Mermaid with Le Theatre de Marionette Experience: Audience Etiquette It is important to remember: Stay in your place Sit quietly Laugh and clap- but no talking Ask all of your questions when the show is over Le Theatre de Marionette also asks that educators take students to the restroom prior to the performance. In an emergency, please quietly escort students to the lobby. We also ask that educators remove crying, shouting or otherwise disruptive students from the theater. And generally we ask that all educators assist our staff and artists by maintaining appropriate student behavior during the performance. Enrichment: What is a Marionette? The Little Mermaid with Le Theatre de Marionette Enrichment: What is a Marionette? A marionette is a puppet controlled from above using wires or strings. Marionettes are operated with the puppeteer hidden or revealed to an audience by using a vertical or horizontal control bar. Marionette performances are most often seen at a theater but they have also been used in films and on TV. In French, marionette means "little Mary”, because one of the marionettes was of the Virgin Mary, hence the name. Experience Introduction Enrichment Projects About Us IFW Donors
