Detail Design – Building Plan All resident facilities are located on the ground floor. Single communal entrance, double height as key character space. Two storey communal space Simple and legible circulation routes (secondary staff circulation corridor) Dead ends avoided where possible Communal garden acts as circulation datum. Flat entrances identifiable / personalised Compact flat layout. Manageable. Bungalows have own front door off courtyard and ‘normal’ layout with detail adaptations. Living spaces overlook streets for visual community link. Communal garden is safe wandering space with a choice of routes and seating options.

Flat Details Lounge Kitchen Alcove Bed St Shower

Alcove shelving converted to bench seating Alcove shelving converted to bench seating. Slim line display cabinet used for personal objects, family photos etc (memory box). Art work developed with resident for each seating alcove. Stained glass art installation to each roof light to give individual character. Convert flat to open plan with low level dividers to delineate space. Kitchen remodelled to add units and increase capacity. Shower room and WC modified.

New door to master bedroom / semi en-suite Walk in shower tray with waist high privacy screen and shower curtain Door relocated and fully glazed to aid visibility (or omitted completely) Door removed and kitchen opened up. Use as many glass doors as possible for kitchen units Consider the use of induction cookers Arrange furniture layout to allow one seat to have visibility of WC door Consider glazing bedroom door to help with recognition and also help carer check on the condition of their ‘patient’ without disturbing them. Issues of privacy need to be considered. Sculpture and door colour to match. Raised planter for residents to personalise.
