Getting to Know One Another To change the pictures on this slide, go to: View Slide Master (Under Master Views) You can change the pictures in the Slide Master.

Getting to Know One Another Games We’re going to play a couple of quick games designed to get to know each other a little better We will take a maximum of five minutes per game. Soooo…take these next few minutes to get to know each other and most importantly… …Have Fun!!

Getting to Know You Bingo The goal is to get to know each other by completing a row, column or diagonal with three signatures. Everyone can only sign your sheet once, even if they meet more than one criteria. When you finish a row, column or diagonal, you get a BINGO! See how many BINGOs you can get!

BINGO Card Meet someone who… …Has blue as a favourite colour . …Has taken an exercise class this week …Collects something (coins, cars, toys, etc.) …Listens to the radio …Went to school in the city or town where you were born …Has or had more than two different kinds of pets …Has paid less than $0.60/L for gas (ever) …Is at least half-way finished with their holiday shopping …Loves music

What do we have in common? We will break into groups of three or four. Find three things that everyone in your group has in common. The person with the birthday that falls closest to Christmas Day will present the answers to the group.

Tips for Being an Engaged Council Member Tip 1: Share your views Focus on problem solving together. Be respectful about the way you word things. It’s always important to be diplomatic when working with a group. Respect people’s privacy. For example, don’t use names when sharing someone else’s story.

Tips for Being an Engaged Council Member Tip 2: Draw on your communication skills Keep an open mind. Leave room for other points of view that may also be valid. Listen to understand what people are trying to say, even if they may not be able to say it clearly. Share speaking time with everyone who wants to contribute.

Tips for Being an Engaged Council Member Tip 3: Ask questions Ask questions to make sure you understand what someone said. Ask for more details if you need them. Ask for definitions of anything you don’t understand, like medical terms or abbreviations.

Tips for Being an Engaged Council Member Tip 4: Be ready for disagreements Not everyone shares the same point of view. Describe your point of view as your opinion rather than fact or truth for everyone. Ask for more information if someone says change is not possible. What has been tried before? What was the outcome? Why did that happen? Try to be patient if people disagree. Consider taking breaks when discussing contentious issues. Try to make sure no one takes a disagreement personally.

Sharing Your Story Sharing your story can be a powerful way to help others get to know you and your family. You may want to share your story with staff or other residents and family members when you: first come to the facility attend update meetings with staff and administration meet with new staff meet with new residents or families of new residents

Thank You for Being Part of Our Resident and Family Council!
