Elements of movement The elements of movement provides us with a way to explain a dance based on theory. Movement can be interpreted based on time, space and energy. This can be applied by students in a in creating their own dances to develop an understanding of their own use of movement or to analyse someone else’s movement.

You can best remember the body actions as… There are six different body actions that should be put into choreographed dances. This allows for diversity of steps and interesting features in the dance to watch. You can best remember the body actions as… G.L.E.F.T.S

G.L.E.F.T.S 1. GESTURE: A natural communicating movement of an isolated body part. 2. LOCOMOTION: Means movement. To move from place A to B in any manner and on any level.

3. ELEVATION: To move from one plane to a higher plane. 4 3. ELEVATION: To move from one plane to a higher plane. 4. FALLS: To move from one plane to a lower plane.

5. TURNS: To rotate the whole body or an isolated body part 6 5. TURNS: To rotate the whole body or an isolated body part 6. STILLNESS: The pauses between movement actions. These can be used to create regular or irregular rhythms

YOUR JOB… Create a group dance today using: CHOREOGRAPHY (repetition, rearrangement, addition, subtraction and abstraction) GLEFTS (gesture, locomotion, elevation, falls, turns, stillness)
