New York State Common Core Social Studies Framework

What is the Purpose of Social Studies? The primary purpose of Social Studies is to help young people develop the ability to make informed and reasoned decisions for the public good as citizens of a culturally diverse, democratic society in an interdependent world (adapted from the NCSS 2014 NY Social Studies Framework)

Purpose of the Framework The New York State K-12 Social Studies Framework is designed to prepare students for college, career and civic life with courses that are rigorous and aligned to New York State Learning Standards, and the Common Core It articulates what students should learn and be able to do in social studies.

The Framework is based upon: New York State Social Studies Standards College, Career, and Civic Life (C3) Framework the National Council for the Social Studies themes Common Core Literacy Skills

The framework is based upon: The five NYS Social Studies Learning Standards Standard 1: History of the United States and NY Standard 2: World History Standard 3: Geography Standard 4: Economics Standard 5: Civics, Citizenship, and Government

College, Career, and Civic Life (C3) Framework for Inquiry (2013) The Inquiry Arc is at the heart of C3 Framework .
