Solar cooker 1.Component of the Solar cooker 2.How do the component help to cook the food? 3.The path of light rays go into the cooker. 4.Conclusion

Component of the Solar cooker Polystyrene box. A piece of glass. Some black papers 2 types of tapes Scissors cutter

The Design of our Solar Cooker

How do the Components help to cook the food? Polystyrene box: To prevent heat loss Put a black paper at the bottom of the box: Help to absorb heat A piece of glass: To trap the heat inside the box

After all the set-ups, then, we will put the sausage which is wrapped with aluminium foil (silver inside, black outside) in the middle of the polystyrene box.

The path of light rays go into the cooker Polystyrene box sausage

We first want to use aluminum foil to gather solar energy. However, using aluminum foil to reflect the light ray can only give a small amount of heat, so we mainly focus on conduction and radiation of heat. Discussion of our aim

Conduction of heat Radiation of heat In order to cook the sausage, We have made use of some physical theories, like: Conduction of heat Heat flow through the black aluminum foil and conduct to the sausage. Radiation of heat The main source of heat is from the sun transfer to the cooker.

Method to prevent heat loss: polystyrene box and glass cover trap the heat . We use polystyrene to construct the body of the solar cooker because it is a kind of material that can trap heat. sausage is wrapped with aluminum foil contains two sides, silver colour inside can reflect the heat and prevent heat loss. Method helps to absorb heat: The base of box is black in colour . The outside of the aluminum foil wrapped the sausage is also black.

And it can also reduce the heat loss by convection. We also apply the knowledge of greenhouse effect in the set up: The glass roof -allows visible light to pass through and goes into the sausage -by absorbing the light, the sausage will raise its temperature. The glass roof can keep the inside box warm by trapping the energy. And it can also reduce the heat loss by convection. In order to obtain the best results, the following measures has to be taken: In the afternoon or the time which we can get the maximum sunlight
