BED210 Basics of Research S.Y.B.Ed.2017-18 Suresh G. Isave Associate Professor Tilak College of Education, Pune

Activity : Preparation of a research proposal, conduct a research and write a report. 1. To prepare a research proposal ( July-August) ( 1st /2nd month of the Internship) 2. To Conduct a research ( 3rd /4th month of the Internship) 3. To Write a report www.sureshisave.in/

Introduction: This course will enable the student teacher to know the basic research methodology, to identify the school based research problem and to solve them scientifically. www.sureshisave.in/

Guidelines: Each student-teacher should select a separate educational problem for short research. G&C Cell in-charge faculty will be a research guide. A research proposal should be prepared and get it approved from a guide. Conduct a research work under the guidance of a guide. www.sureshisave.in/

Guidelines: Research work can be conducted during internship. Student-teacher should meet a guide regularly and update progress of every phase of a research. Research report should be prepared by the student and duly signed by the guide. Research report should be in student teachers’ own handwriting. www.sureshisave.in/

Guidelines: Evidences (Data collection tools filled by informants, permission letter, photographs etc.) should be attached at the end of the report. Report should be written on A4 paper on both sides of paper. Report should be submitted in a simple file to a guide for evaluation. www.sureshisave.in/

What is research ? Research is a studious inquiry or examination especially investigation or experimentation aimed at the discovery and interpretation of facts, revision of accepted theories or laws in the light of new facts, or practical application of such new or revised theory or laws. Merriam- Webster.com (Feb 2015) www.sureshisave.in/

What is Research? In a scientific method, first a person clarifies her idea what she want to acquire. She reviews previous studies and combines with its own experience and defines the problems. Then she collects the data from the informants and subjects. After gathering the data se summaries and analysis it and try to come on the particular conclusion. At the end she does documentation of the investigation that she carried out. www.sureshisave.in/

Educational Research Educational Research is applied science. When the research procedure is adapted to solve the problems in education, to find out facts in education, to answer the questions in education is called educational research. www.sureshisave.in/

Types of Research methods Historical (Past) (Present) Descriptive Experimental (Future) www.sureshisave.in/

Historical Research Historical research tends to find facts in the past. Researchers focuses on historical sources to collect the data. e.g.Case-study www.sureshisave.in/

Descriptive Research A researcher may analyze the data that he has collected and discovers that different variables are correlated. It is about finding the status of variable in present situation. E.g.- Survey www.sureshisave.in/

Experimental Research Experimental research provides the control on the variable and give opportunity to modify the variable in controlled situation. Researcher establishes a systematic and logical association between manipulated factors and observed effects. www.sureshisave.in/

Research Proposal A research proposal is a concise and coherent summary of your proposed research. It sets out the central issues or questions that you intend to address. It outlines the general area of study within which yourresearch falls, referring to the current state of knowledge and any recent debates on the topic. www.birmingham.ac.uk/schools/law/courses/research/research-proposal.aspx www.sureshisave.in/

Research Area in Educational Research Learning difficulties Learning styles Subjects specific skills Achievement Aptitude Interest Behavioral issues of learners Use of new methods Application of ICT Program Development Case study Inclusive education Teaching styles www.sureshisave.in/

Variable Dependent - on which the impact will be done ( impact/effect/change) Achievement, attitude, learning style, problems Independent – with which the impact will be done ( treatment/intervention/Program) Remedial program, use of ICT, use of different strategies) www.sureshisave.in/
