Allied Strategy: Island Hopping Campaign Seizing islands closer and closer to Japan and using them as bases for air attacks on Japan cut off Japanese supplies through submarine warfare Began in summer 1942 with Guadalcanal

1942: May and June American warships and airplanes damaged two Japanese fleets during the battles of Coral Sea and Midway This would weaken Japanese naval power Stopped the Japanese advance toward Hawaii
