The Penguin Who Wanted to Fly Mrs. Monacelli`s Class Week of January 2nd What we did this week: Theme: We learned all about Penguins, Why they waddle, Who takes care of the egg before its born, That they are birds, but they cant fly, why they are black and white. What they eat and what eats them. We also read many books, learned a number song with penguins, and danced the penguin dance. We made a penguin art that is hanging in the hallway. We also made snowmen with our face in them, which is hanging on our door to our room! They turned out cute! Math Centers: Roll and color penguins, Fish patterns(AB and ABC), and pom pom numbers. Literacy Centers: We reviewed the letters that we have learned so far this year: L, F, E, H, T, I, U, C, S, O, Q Continue work on writing both upper and lower case of these letters. Writers Workshop: Finished unfinished work in folders and started a new story, practiced writing our sounds for words. We also learned how to label with a fun activity were the kids labeled Mrs. Monacelli-check out Facebook for pictures-they had fun with this one! We are so excited to welcome our new student into our class-Makenzie! We learned all about her this week. The children have been amazing at welcoming her and showing her our routines and rules. Reminders/ Important Class Info No school Thurs, January 19 and Friday, January 20th for conferences and in-service. Conference information to follow this coming week 4k PJ and teddy bear day Tuesday Jan 10th Field trip to Planetarium Wednesday, January 25th Please remember to wear or bring gym shoes on Thursdays, the gym floor is slippery and we do a lot of running-thanks Label all outerwear and please practice getting it on and taking it off all by themselves.
