MLA is… An acronym for Modern Language Association The preferred method of citation for English and other humanities courses (languages, art, etc.) A way to emphasize the authorship of a cited source In other words, MLA formatting is a way to show where our ideas and evidence come from. What is MLA?

MLA Formatting dictates… Your font/size choices (Times New Roman, 12) Your heading format Your citation format (in-text) The way you write numbers and contractions The way you list your references at the end of your writing (works cited page, reverse indentation) MLA Formatting dictates…
