Lab #2 – Observations of Steel Wool (20 minutes total) FIRE = hair back, goggles on, and PAY ATTENTION!!! ALWAYS USE THE SAME BALANCE Make as many observations as you can: BEFORE DURING AFTER CLEAN-UP: Everything in the trash (foil and wool)

Lab 2 Work Time in groups (20 min) 1) Only one calculation (in your lab book after the data section) Mass change: Don’t forget LABEL, SHOW FORMULA, SHOW WORK and proper sig figs! 2) Conclusion writing together as a lab group (Group Google doc and share with me BEFORE you leave class) FOLLOW the “5 steps to a great conclusion” handout and USE EVIDENCE!

Conclusions work time In your lab groups, write ONE conclusion together that: Briefly reviews what you did and why (1-2 sentences MAXIMIUM) Gives your results (numerical and observations) Explains your results (WITH EVIDENCE) Discusses sources and effects of error and ways to fix those errors if you did the lab again SHARE WITH ME (kklug@aosr.org) as a Google Doc BEFORE NEXT CLASS Make sure NAMES and CLASS PERIOD are on it in a nice heading.

Homework Day 9 Start typing up Lab 1 (see previous slide and “guidelines” handout for directions) Not due next class, but get going! Lab #1 Type: Title, heading, partners Purpose in your own words Data Table (with proper sig figs!) All Calculations in proper format with proper sig figs and units Conclusion (I would wait until Lab 1 feedback) Works Cited in MLA (all research links used) ALL WORK 100% BY YOU and YOU ONLY! NOT A GROUP REPORT. NO CHEATING.
