What’s Next? Taking your notecards, outline, and resources to create a research paper.

Begin to write Using your outline as a guide, begin to put your research paper together. Make note of comments regarding your title, thesis, and outline. Make sure you support your thesis. Refer to notecards and sources for specifics and page numbers. ALWAYS give credit to the original author!!!

Author’s name in textual citations First reference to the author – use first and last name. Example – 1st reference to the author: John Smith, in his reference to….. Following references to the same author – use ONLY the last name. Example: Smith continues to affirm…..

Citation If you refer to the author in your statement, then you only need to give a page number in the parenthetical documentation. Example: Smith, in his studies on cancer survivors, states that forty-three percent of those with stage four cancer who survive more than five years have no recurrence at ten years (387).

Citation If you do not refer to the author in your statement, then you need to give author’s last name, & page number in the parenthetical documentation. Example: Research shows that forty-three percent of those with stage four cancer who survive more than five years have no recurrence at ten years (Smith, 387).
