WALT: Transform narrative into dialogue

In partners… Turn the direct speech into reported speech. “I hate you,” she whispered. “Did you find it in the tunnel?” she asked. “Let’s find the others,” he suggested. “That’s not fair!” he exclaimed.

speech marks enclosing the words actually spoken; comma at the end of the spoken words before the ‘said’; new line/paragraph for each new speaker; lower case for ‘said’ even after exclamation mark; sentence continues with lower case after the speaker.

Your task… Transform text about Roald Dahl into dialogue. Keep checking that you are using all the features of dialogue. Extension: Open your reading book and see if you can find any examples of direct speech. Copy them in to your literacy book and then write them out as reported speech.
