Gmail Accounts Every student in our school is issued a Google gmail on their first day of class. We purchased a domain for students only. With a Google gmail account, students have access to gmail, Google Drive, and a Youtube account. Email accounts are created, monitored and managed by leadership members. Accounts are deleted once a year. Students leaving may have their information transferred to a personal account. Benefits of student email accounts are: every student can send and receive emails. Students have access to Google Drive. Teachers can email or forward information. Students can email absences. Teachers can use Google Classroom (need a domain to access).

ESL Technology Currently being used in our ESL courses: Burlington English Google Voice Gmail Accounts Scavenger Hunt (smart phones)

El Civics Assessments - Using Google Voice Establish collaboration between programs English as a Second Language – ESL Computer and Office Technology - CTE Promotes Leadership Skills Community/ Customer Service Leadership CTE students work together to establish Google numbers CTE students meet to review documents for assessments CTE practice role plays Advantages Finish all classes in one morning instead of an entire week Increase “real life” experience for ESL students Avoid the need for subs and additional lesson planning

What is Google Voice? Google Voice allows you to set up a number and you can have this number ring your cell phone, home phone, or work number. Benefits: Students use this and not personal numbers Provides transcripts of messages Students can text this number Keeps a record and you have access to it anywhere.

EL Civics - 911 What is your emergency? ESL students practiced calling “911” and reporting an emergency to CTE students using Google Voice.

ABE Technology students are using in ABE: Gmail Accounts Google Drive Google Chromebooks Google Classroom Khan Academy Odysseyware

ABE Using Google Docs ABE students are using Google Docs for a variety of assignments. Some examples are: Vocabulary Research paper Extended Response

High School Diploma Technology being used in our high school diploma courses: Odysseyware Gmail Accounts

Odysseyware Students use Odysseyware: Instructors Credit recovery to meet student needs individually CRX mode allows students to pretest and do only units needed Reports available for individuals or classes Can set your own score threshold Offer a variety of electives otherwise limited Instructors Courses can be built from scratch using topics in odysseyware Existing courses can be modified and changed to meet student’s needs Alerts sent when students complete assignments Blocks students when they are not passing or from skipping around

HSE (GED) Gmail Accounts Google Drive (Slides, Docs, Forms) Google Classroom Quill.com GED Ready Newsela Youtube Blendspace (tes.com) - GED Math Unit 1 Weebly.com Technology Created Units - Career Week Facebook/Twitter

GED Focuses on RLA GED students use gmails and Drive daily. All of their assignments are created in Google Drive, placed in their folders or uploaded to the classroom. Advantages: Student folders are shared with you and anything they create in the folder you can look at and leave comments on their work. Google classroom allows students to upload assignments and you can look at each assignment, and you know what has been turned in or not. We also use: Newsela.com - current articles and questions Quill.com - Grammar practice

GED focuses on Science and Social Studies Students continue to create and share documents for each subject matter. There are special projects students create and share. A great resource on Google Drive is the ability to share and collaborate with each other. Students can create a Google Slideshow and share with other students and they can all work on it at the same time. Project ideas: Social Studies - Revolutionary War Newspaper Science - Travel the Solar System Example Science - Travel the Solar System Guidelines Science - Rollercoaster Projects

GED Projects Currently, I continue to build projects and units for students to use technology and learn subject matter content. My goal is to create units in all subject areas to encourage a blended learning environment. Two complete units are: Career Week Unit ( Used Google slides, Google forms, TedTalks, and Youtube) GED Math Unit 1 (Used Blendspace with videos, handouts and powerpoints)

CTE - Computer Office and Technology Chromebooks Gmails - Leadership quotes Google Drive Google Sheets - progress reports Google Slides Digital Portfolios Twitter Weebly Microsoft Suite Microsoft Office Specialist Certification Community Service

COT Students work with Microsoft Office to enhance their technology skills and become MOS (microsoft office specialist) certified -nationally recognized certification. GMetric is used to assist student readiness of MOS certification upon completion of each Microsoft application. Google drive is used create and store digital portfolios. Gmail is used for daily gmail correspondence Kahoot is used in class collaboration/assessment of math, microsoft and technology skills.

COT and Technology COT students have the ability to review their progress from anywhere at anytime via their google drive. COT Progress Reports MAS Progress Reports COT Website

COT Leadership - Community Service Students respond to leadership quotes via gmail on a daily basis. They are encouraged to respond using HOTS...there is no wrong answer, only what they think. Twice a year students participate in school leadership by assisting in the EL Civics assessment process utilizing technology (911 -health interviews, mock employment interviews). Students who participate receive a community service certificate to add to their portfolios

Technology Tips Embrace Technology! Try free apps first to see if you will use it Students need technology to be Career & College ready Just starting? Pick one or two forms of technology to focus on at first Don’t have a domain? Have students sign up for a free gmail account Students create a folder in Google Drive and share it with you Use apps for their phones instead of being a phone tyrant Instill leadership and have students assist new students Students can create lessons for you Students can find and rate videos to use Google it! Students do it and so can you! Use social media for professional growth!
