THE PILOT STUDY ON CIGET AND INTRA-FIRM TRADE – BACKGROUND INFORMATION The objective: Is it feasible to compile statistics on the impact of the international groups of enterprises on trade statistics? The concrete aims of the study: Intra-firm and CIGET statistics for external and internal trade by ownership groups (domestic, EU and non-EU). Statistical results on intra-firm trade on the basis of the country of ownership of the enterprise groups. THE PRODUCTION OF INTRA-FIRM AND CIGET STATISTICS The Finnish Enterprise Group Register provides a good framework for this kind of study. The enterprises belonging to the CIGET trade can be identified with existing registers. With current registers it is possible to trace CIGET trade flows as long as the domestic operator is an enterprise group -> therefore the pilot study has been constructed from Finland’s perspective and it includes only a part of the total CIGET trade flows. 13.9.2005 6th OECD INTERNATIONAL TRADE STATISTICS EXPERT MEETING (ITS)

METHODOLOGICAL DIFFICULTIES WITH INTRA-FIRM STATISTICS With current registers it is possible to compile CIGET statistics!
