Quick Bio. ERIC CARLE was born in the US in 1929 and moved to Germany when he was 6. There, he was conscripted as a boy to dig trenches for the Germans in WWII. Following this, Eric attended art school, and came back to the US in the 1950s, where he was briefly a graphic designer for the New York Times before being drafted for the Korean War. When he got back, he work his way to the head of his own graphic advertising agency before being asked to illustrate a book in 1967– Brown Bear, Brown Bear, What Do You See? This Launched his famed career, and he has since illustrated and written hundreds of children's books; all collage.

His books and collages are often informative, such as The Tiny Seed, illustrating the lifecycle of a plant

Or, the lifecycle and metamorphosis of a butterfly, in: The Very Hungary Caterpillar.

Paper Making Method ERIC CARLE makes all of his papers by painting textures on tissue paper with acrylic paint. He uses brushes of all sizes, his fingers, sponges, burlap, tooth brushes, and as you can see, brooms, and all manners of materials to get the looks that he wants.

Art Making Method Ounce he makes the papers he finds just the textures and colors he is looking for and layers the translucent tissue paper over each other to get complete and realistic looking designs. He glues these down on paper and works and builds with many layers.
