Ocean’s Life Zones

Ocean’s Life Zones 70% percent of the Earth’s surface is covered with ocean Conditions can vary within the ocean so we have divided them into life zones: Intertidal Neritic Open Sea

3 divisions of the open sea Photosynthetic – similar to Neritic because only division that sunlight reaches. Bathyal – plants can’t grow here Abyssal – always dark

Open Ocean Zone Bathyal Zone Abyssal Zone Photosynthetic Zone Intertidal Zone Photosynthetic Zone Neritic Zone Open Ocean Zone Bathyal Zone Abyssal Zone

Open sea Neritic Intertidal Photosynthetic Bathyal Abyssal

Neritic and intertidal Neritic is over the shelf; photosynthetic is The surface of the open sea Neritic zone includes the tides, photosynthetic doesn’t Neritic and intertidal Bathyal Abyssal intertidal Open Sea

Ocean Life Plankton: Plankton are microscopic organisms, like algae; that float on the oceans' currents. Nekton Animals that swim or move freely in the ocean come in all shapes and sizes live in shallow and deep ocean waters. Most nekton eat zooplankton, other nektons or they scavenge for waste Benthos organisms that inhabit the ocean floor. Crab, sea stars, lobsters, sponges, sea anemones,
