Connect between NPTEL and colleges No contact with colleges? Who do we send information to? Who are the interested colleges that actively use NPTEL? How do we pass on any benefits for students if we wish to? Feedback from institutes – how do they find the courses, is some more content required, what courses would colleges be interested in?

What is required to become a Local Chapter? Entire NPTEL content shared on the LAN – accessible to all for viewing, download and copying 9TB hard disk (4TB x 2 + 1TB) Copying is free NPTEL

Rating of NPTEL Local Chapters The formula given below was applied for the number of students present in the exam (for both the Sep and Oct 2016 exams) and the type of certificates obtained by them. Overall score for NPTEL Local Chapter in Jul-Nov 2016: 0.1 x Number present for exam (capped at 10) + 1 x Number of Successfully completed (40-59) + 2 x Number of Elite (60-89) + 10 x Number of Gold (90-) + 20 x Number of Toppers 100 Local Chapters rated as “AAA”, “AA” and “A”. Next rating will be in May 2017 Local Chapters, apart from rated colleges, that don’t get a ranking but participate in the courses will be tagged as “Active” - 214

Role of SPOC Brand ambassador of NPTEL in the college Identify faculty members who can act as mentors for the enrolled students Encourage students to enroll in these courses. Ensure NPTEL content at college is up to date Aid students in exam registration Make available facilities for students to access online courses

Certificates for SPOCs SPOCs of the 100 top Local Chapters will get certificates with some kind of badge that also mentions the rating of the Local Chapter. SPOCs of “Active local chapters” will get recognition certificates too.

Mentors Faculty members who teach the course or in relevant discipline can be a mentor Should enroll to the course Can mentor only 2 courses maximum No minimum number of students to be a mentor; Maximum ratio of 1:50 Students have to select the mentor on the portal Mentors can see the assignment scores of mentees Can help with explaining gaps in concepts taught Give more practice assignments Facilitate resources for viewing the lectures

Certificates for mentors Based on performance of mentees, certificates are awarded For the September exams, 353/765 mentors get certificates For the October exams, 42/145 mentors get certificates

Benefits to students of LC Have access to 1000+ courses of NPTEL –view, download and copy Get information about upcoming courses If a mentor is available, get help when required Be eligible for scholarship and avail DD payment Use college infrastructure for course access Be motivated by fellow students, group work
