DELIVERING ON THE SDGS THRO’ CLEAN COOKING

THE PROBLEM The use of open fires and solid fuels poses health and environmental problems. Nearly 4 million deaths per year are caused by this. Women and children are disproportionately affected by this e.g. exposure to toxic smoke while cooking.

CLEAN COOKING A S A DRIVER OF SDG SUCCESS Developing a market for improved and efficient cookstoves and fuels can lead to; Improved livelihoods Women empowerment Environment conservation

CLEAN COOKING A S A DRIVER OF SDG SUCCESS Cont’d Clean cooking can directly contribute to an enabling environment for achieving 10 SDGs as well as the entire Agenda 2030 for instance;

WHAT YOU CAN DO TO ADVANCE CLEAN COOKING Ensure your government, organisations and partners incorporate clean cooking into their SDG planning discussions. Support the establishment of beneficial tax and tariff rates necessary to grow the market for clean and efficient cookstoves and fuels. Promote the measurement and review of SDG indicators related to clean cooking and household energy under Goal 3, Goal 5 and Goal 7 at national and county levels Ensure that financial mechanisms and programming to support energy access, economic development, health and women empowerment includes provision to support clean cooking.

ABOUT CCAK Clean Cookstoves Association of Kenya was founded in 2013. CCAK aims to fundamentally change the way Kenyans meet their household cooking energy needs by promoting and advocating for the use of sustainable alternative fuels and cook stove technologies. To meet this goal, CCAK is committed to equipping its members in addressing challenges across the clean fuel and cook stove value chain.

CCAK OBJECTIVES To Strengthen partners’ collective concerns on issues of clean cook stoves and fuels for the creation of appropriate policies, implementation strategies and regulatory frameworks To facilitate the transfer of local and global knowledge on clean cook stoves and fuel stake holders To enhance demand, strengthen supply and build an enabling environment for the clean cook stoves and fuels market
