Newsletter - Date of Issue – 19th September 2014 Ofsted On Wednesday 10th September and Thursday 11th September Ofsted visited our school. The children were amazing as usual and I was very proud. The results of this visit will be released in due course and parents will be able to read the latest report on our school website. We will inform you when it is published. Uniform Dinner Money School Security Year 6 Reminder - School sweatshirts, book bags and ties can be purchased from Sew Sublime in Bridge street, Banbury- Between Kwit Fit and the train station and just below Gymophobics. Black trousers, skirts, gingham dresses and white shirts/blouses are available from supermarkets and retail stores. Please remember to name all clothing, this way any missing items can be returned to the rightful owner. Please ensure that your child has a pair of black/navy sensible school shoes. Note – Ties are not to be worn with gingham dresses or polo t.shirts. If you require any further information please contact the school office or call in at reception. Dinner Money Dinner money must be paid in advance of meals taken, if your child has forgotten their lunch box then a call will be made home to request that the lunch box is brought into school, if contact has not been made a lunch will then be provided and funds will then be requested to be paid at the end of the school day. If you require meals for the whole week it is advisable that you pay for the full week in advance on a Monday morning. School Security We would remind parents that they should not be accompanying children into the classrooms in the mornings. Please report to the school office if you would like to leave a message or make an appointment to speak to your child’s teacher. Year 6 On Wednesday 10th September, Year 6 had a marvellous educational morning. With an enthusiastic historian they: cast coins; spun wool; wrote with a quill; and handled objects from everyday Stuart life - including weapons! They learnt that in the 1640’s people brushed their teeth with grass, had no pockets and fired bullets that rarely hit the target. The children were buzzing with excitement.

Year 1 Next week, Year 1 will be learning about addresses as part of our Geography unit within the topic of ‘Ourselves’. The children will be writing a letter to send home to themselves via post so we please ask for every child to bring in a postage stamp by Monday 22nd September. PE days Miss Morgan – Wednesday (outdoor – trainers) Friday (indoor) Miss Godsil – Thursday (indoor) Friday (outdoor – trainers) Miss Morgan would like to thank the parents and carers of children in her class for their support with reading at home. It has been excellent to see so many book bags coming in each day with reading challenges, books and notes from parents! Miss Godsil would like to advise parents to return book bags each day so that reading challenges can be reviewed. Year 2 On Monday 15th September, Mrs Ward's Class went to the local shop to complete a traffic survey. We carefully counted and recorded all of the vehicles that passed us. We discovered that cars pass the shops the most. Despite all getting a little bit wet, we had a great afternoon! 

Year 6 At Orchard Fields on Wednesday 17th September, 10 Year 6 children joined pupils from other schools for a maths workshop. The day consisted of  fun, hands-on games and was enjoyed by all - including Mrs Ansell and Mrs Northam who attended to further extend their already considerable teaching maths skills. Further to this, we have 5 literacy workshops (including writing songs and cartoons) and 5 more maths workshops for pupils from years 1 - 6 coming up. Learning and fun - that's how we like it! Attendance Last week our overall school attendance was 96.17%, so we had 9 minutes and 6 seconds of fun on Tuesday and again on Friday as we remained above 96% until then! This was fantatstic, well done to those children who were in school everyday! This week, unfortunately we have dropped to 95.96% due to the poor attendance on Monday, in which over 5 home visits took place to try and ascertain why children were not in school that day. Please remember to phone school each day before 9am to inform us why your child is not in school Well done to Mrs Ward’s class for getting the best attendance last week. Every child was in every day and 1 child was late on one day! Unfortunately, we had 36 lates last week! This was really disappointing. 25% of the lates were children in Miss Morgan’s class, 16.6% Mr Delarue’s class and 13.8% Mrs Ruffle’s class. Well done to Miss Stuart’s and Miss Giles children for all of them being on time everyday! This week we had 36 lates again! It is really disappointing to see no improvement. Well done to Miss Morgan and Mr Delarue’s class for improving. Some children in Mrs Ruffle’s class still need to improve their punctuality. Well done to the parents and children in Mr Baldwin’s, Miss Gile’s, Mrs Ward’s, Mrs Bradford and Mr McLeods class for having the best punctuality this week – only 1 late per class!

Lunchtime Assistant and Cleaner Needed! Road Safety The safety of our children is paramount and drivers should be aware of children crossing and take due care and attention. Children have been put at risk by some Parents and Guardians when parking and dropping pupils at the beginning, middle, and end of the school day. If you do have to drive, please respect the safety and well being of all members of our school community by parking safely and in an appropriate location. Why not see if you can arrange to car share with other parents to help reduce the numbers of cars around the school, or use the car parks near to the school. Lunchtime Assistant and Cleaner Needed! Lunchtime Assistant - £6.51 p/h. We require a reliable assistant to supervise our children during their lunchtime. Your role will be to ensure the wellbeing and safety of the children whilst eating their lunch and during indoor and outdoor playtimes. The hours are 12.00pm – 1.00pm, Monday to Friday (term time only). The successful applicant will ideally have experience of working within a school setting. Cleaner - £6.51 p/h. We require a cleaner who is able to ensure that our school is cleaned to a high standard. Candidates should be responsible, reliable and must be able to work as part of a team. You will be required from 3.30 – 5.30pm, Monday to Friday in term time, you will also need to be available to work during school holidays.
