Swimming at Overstone 230 children at the school (ages 4 to 11) All swim at least once a week during the summer term. Benefits of our own pool Meets national curriculum requirement Less disruption to learning No time wasted Enables all year groups to swim Prevents extra cost for coaches and reduces loss of time from travelling Parent survey My child has gained a lot of confidence in the water following the sessions Parent survey Both children make good progress during school swimming lessons. I like the fact that they are in a familiar environment and feel safe. We are so fortunate to have a pool on site, I feel strongly that we need to keep it. Parent survey

The Issue: The swimming pool was built over 50 years ago It has been well maintained over the years It now needs a complete overhaul. Immediate issues: Failing plant room Changing rooms location Need for disabled access to pool and changing facilities.

The solution: Phases: Timing: Costs: 1. Plant Room and Changing Rooms To include surveyor costs, plant equipment and installation, and building works for plant room, changing rooms and showers July 2014 onwards £70,000 plus (Pending confirmation of building cost) 2. Pool liner and pool surround Will last 5 more years maximum By July 2018 £20,000 3. Pool enclosure Needs replacing by 2018 (BCC will not replace but currently maintain) £37,500
