A blending of mission statements between the TMC Library and Nat Network of Libraries of Med South Central Region. As their RML, The TMC Library partnered with the NNLM/SCR, to host an educational event about eScience.

How will your Library engage? DuraSpace/Association of Research Libraries/ Digital Library Federation 2012 E-Science Institute Building Strategic Agendas for eResearch Support Then we went to school about it. The TMC Library as Student. Leader, Partner, Follower, or not at all Alone or part of a Consortium Specific Expertise, or General Support All areas of research, or specific disciplines In September 2012, our Executive Director decided we should participate in the DuraSpace 2012 Escience Institute. A four month course, designed to help academic and research libraries develop a strategic agenda for e-research support, with a particular focus on the sciences. Ended in a two day capstone Event in Washington DC,, where Strategic Agendas were built and shared. First question: How will your library use this Strategic Agenda?     eScience:  usually refers to a type of scientific research that uses large-scale computing infrastructure to process very large data sets.  eResearch:  refers more to the concept of research using digital technology (e.g. computing, networks, digital data) in fields including science, social science and the humanities.  Despite its title, the DuraSpace eScience Institute is more focused on eResearch as just defined, but it also explores eScience and other key concepts in modern, network and computer-enable research. How will your Library engage?

Potential Library Activities Data Curation--management, reuse, preservation. Scholarly Communication—publishing, promoting open access. Virtual organizations---shared computing, distributed research teams. Research Collaboration—tools for sharing profiles and projects. Technical Support—server space, storage silos. What did we learn? A list potential library activities to be considered.

What happens when we succeed? Questions we had to ask ourselves…Worst thing we could do: is to not consider the possibilities for new collaborations. What’s lost if we don’t try?
