Presentation transcript:

This is the time of year people make their “resolutions.” They’ll either quit some bad habit, or start doing something good.

The idea of having or making a “resolution” is Biblical.

For we shall all stand before the judgment seat of Christ For we shall all stand before the judgment seat of Christ. For it is written: “As I live, says the LORD, every knee shall bow to Me, and every tongue shall confess to God.” So then each of us shall give account of himself to God. Therefore let us not judge one another anymore, but rather resolve this, not to put a stumbling block or a cause to fall in our brother's way. Rom 14:10b-13

And the news about them reached the ears of the church at Jerusalem, and they sent Barnabas off to Antioch. Then when he had come and witnessed the grace of God, he rejoiced and began to encourage them all with resolute heart to remain true to the Lord. Acts 11:22-23

To make a “resolution” is to purpose a deep commitment in one’s heart. While we don’t need the calendar to read “January 1” to make a resolution, it does give us the opportunity to think about what is important.

The Lord has allowed 2010 to pass, and 2011 to come. For whatever portion of 2011 He allows to remain, what will you “resolve” for this new year?

May each of us “resolve” to… …be better students of His word …be more faithful in prayer …be faithful in attendance …speak to someone about the gospel

As the family of God at Eastside, we are “resolved” this morning to offer the Lord worship He has said He desires. We welcome our visitors, and appreciate our members for their faithful attendance.

May God be praised in our assembly, and may we be “resolved” to be faithful to Him.
