UNIT 1 Matter Day 15 Wednesday, September 20, 2017 Periodic Table Earth and Environmental Science

September 20, 2017 Science starter: how does the number of valence electrons relate to an element’s reactivity?

Plan for today: 1. “Periodic Table Basics” mini-project 2. Wrap-up Sept. 20, 2017 Plan for today: 1. “Periodic Table Basics” mini-project 2. Wrap-up

Essential Question How does atomic structure affect the physical and chemical properties of elements?

Homework: (1) Worksheet pp. 87-102 due tomorrow (2) Quiz Friday on the periodic table. Know the characteristics of the different group and classes, as well as the basic arrangement/pattern of the elements.

Let’s watch a Brainpop video about the Periodic Table. https://www.brainpop.com/science/matterandchemistry /periodictableofelements/

“Periodic Table Basics” mini-project Make sure all info is filled in on your element cards (properties, atom models, etc.) Follow the directions to create your mini-version of the periodic table. Make a color key or label the groups. When you and your partner have completed your mini periodic table, do the analysis questions sheet.

Wrap-up: Any questions? Work on your workbook homework.
