Career- and College-Ready Diploma . Career- and College-Ready Diploma The 24-Credit Career and College Ready diploma Implementation is the subject of many conversations across the state with school districts. It may be up to you in your work to make sure each student understands these requirements and has a plan to both graduates from high school and enter a meaningful postsecondary path – 4-year college, 2-year college, technical college, military, certificate program, or apprenticeship. This graphic gives a visual about the 24-credits. I would like to point out that the the 24-credit requirements for graduation is not called CORE 24 any longer. There are only 17 core courses required. The remaining 7 credits are considered student’s choice for their Personalized Pathway Requirement based on their High School & Beyond. The 24-credit plan offers the opportunity for students to develop and follow a plan, but they need to start early, not just in their last years of high school, which may have been a common best practice in the past. The “Personalized Pathway” is more than just the 3 “flexible” credits. The Personalized Pathway is a PLAN that the student makes think about what s/he wants to do after high school and how the core classes AND electives s/he takes can best prepare him/her for that post-high school plan. There are additional 4 electives, plus 1 CTE Course to make a total of 8 – 1/3 of the overall credits that students can use for choices to connect with their overall “plan” for their future.

Career Clusters and Groups The 16 Career Clusters provide students with a context for studying traditional academics and learning the skills specific to a career, and provide schools with a structure for organizing or restructuring curriculum offerings and focusing class make-up by a common theme such as interest. Students should consider several things when making decisions. One of the most important is “Which one matches my interests?” A good match affects the grades students get, how much they enjoy school, what their college major or program of study will be later on. How can we make this connection with High School and Beyond Plan’s Personalized Pathway Requirement – the Plan! Career Clusters and Groups
