HSE Safety Alert – Incident (Incident No: 270954013) DISCUSSION On the 22nd August, 2016 an ASPEC Employee reported that they were experiencing pain in their wrist and middle finger. This was followed in a couple of days by sharp pain in their shoulder, resulting in on and off pain to this area. The pain progressed to nil movement in their right arm and time off work. Actual Consequences of incident: Lost time injury, GP and physio appointments. ACTION Immediate GP and Physio appointments made, with diagnosis provided Daily exercise routine provided to minimise recurring pain and increase movement back to the arm Potential option/referral, to receive cortisone injection should the current care plan not restore enough movement and limited if no pain The incident was discussed with immediate Supervisor and ASPEC Management. The following should be undertaken as a minimum for ALL ASPEC Engineering staff: Reminder conduct inspections of individual work stations to ensure that correct ergonomics are place. Ensure that adequate resources are provided to assist in a healthy ergonomic workstation setup. Equally important, regular movement away from the work station is achieved to allow for reduction in repetitive movement syndrome. All ASPEC staff have a legal obligation to ensure they are familiar with the components of the HSE Management System, abiding by ASPEC HSE procedures, reporting and risk managing hazards and reporting incidents/ near misses

ASPEC QSHR August 2016 Minutes HSE Activities HOT TOPICS Ergonomics at your workstation We spend a lot of time sitting at our desks everyday. If not managed well, this can create health and workflow issues. There are various options/tools/informative websites available to assist in having the correct ergomically setup workstation for you. The standing workstations are proving successful and providing quite a lot of health benefits. Chairs are very important – comfort, adjustability, lumbar support Your mouse and keyboard placement are a key to your working comfort Monitors – most of us are working with two or monitors. Are they are the correct height for you? Are they causing you to slouch so your neck is not hurting? There are monitor raisers on the market that work great. If you have stand-up workstations, a good read is located in the members area for your review ASPEC QSHR August 2016 Minutes
