A shop on centre allows students the opportunity to buy some souvenirs of their visit to Kingswood. A small amount of pocket money can be brought - between £5 and £10 is ample!

Home away from home • All residential dormitories are warm, comfortable and 100% secure. • Girls and boys sleep in completely separate areas and teachers rooms are located close by to allow for plenty of close supervision. • All bedding is provided on centre - one of the very first tasks for all students is making up their own beds! • Separate showers and toilet facilities are available for girls and boys. Depending on individual centres, some rooms come with en-suite facilities.   Just as at school, Kingswood cannot guarantee 100% safety for personal items brought onto centre and they will not be covered by insurance. It is therefore advisable to leave valuables – cameras, mobiles, iPods, MP3 players, computer games, jewellery - at home. A clearly named disposable camera is acceptable. Food glorious food! It’s important for students to maintain high energy levels throughout their stay, so 3 freshly-prepared, healthy cafeteria-style meals are served in our communal dining area every day. A varied choice is always offered, with both hot and cold meals, a salad bar, at least one vegetarian option and yes, sometimes even chips!   Plenty of juice and water is available at all times. Most dietary requirements can be catered for as long as we are told in advance - forms will be issued to the school prior to your visit for this purpose and to establish any medical needs. Safety & Wellbeing We know how nerve-wracking it can be letting your child go on a residential visit, so we do everything we can to make it a safe and enjoyable experience for all. Our policies and procedures are designed to make sure we adhere to the highest safety standards at all times: • Continual safety and first aid training for all staff • Regular checks on equipment before and after every activity session • Qualified First-Aider on centre 24/7 All Kingswood staff are fully DBS checked and are trained to take responsibility for the well-being of the children in their care. We have found the best way to help children cope with being away from home is to keep them busy, having fun from dawn ‘til dusk. We create a warm, supportive environment for students so they quickly feel at home and our activities are progressive, allowing students to join in at whatever level they’re comfortable with. Our Programme Kingswood activities co-ordinator will create a programme to suit us, it will encourage: cooperation, perseverance, resilience and a sense of achievement. Mrs Bennett is visiting the centre in May to look at the activities before we confirm our choice. Your child will have: • 2 activities on Monday and Wednesday 6 activities on Tuesday • Group sizes of no more than 15, plus a fully qualified Kingswood instructor and an SAP teacher. • An enthusiastic instructor who will provide encouragement and praise to undertake all the activities, but will NEVER force your child – your child will always have a choice. While other schools may also be present At Grosvenor Hall during our stay, our children will be enjoying all activities separately from other schools. It’s all in a day   A typical day at Kingswood runs as follows: • Breakfast between 7.30am and 9am • First activities kick off around 9.30am • 15 minute juice break • Lunch between 12pm and 2pm • A full afternoon of activities • 5 minute juice break • Evening Meal between 5.30 and 7pm • The Social Sundown evening entertainment at 8pm • Return to dorms at 9.30pm • Lights out by 10.15pm The school will choose their preferred activities prior to the trip and the centre will then create a programme to meet all of their specific objectives, needs and learning outcomes. • 6 sessions per day (4 at Dearne Valley) plus one final evening session. • Group sizes of no more than 15 (12 at Colomendy and Dearne Valley) plus a fully qualified Kingswood instructor and a teacher. • Students encouraged and praised during activities but are NEVER forced to take part if they are not comfortable doing so. A total of 6 sessions of activities (each lasting 1hr 10mins) will take place each day (4 activities for Dearne Valley), plus one final session. To ensure the safety off all taking part, students will be split into groups of no more than 15, all of which are led by a fully qualified Kingswood instructor and a teacher. This brings groups sizes well within LEA guidelines of 1 to 10. As it is important to build confidence and self-belief, all students are given plenty of encouragement and praise during activities - they are NEVER forced to take part if they are not comfortable in doing so. While other schools may also be present on centre during your stay, all programmes and activities are conducted separately. Groups will have the opportunity to mix during The Social Sundown.
