Feast of Passover Also Known As Pesach: ‘to pass over’ Observed 14 Nisan March/April Scriptures Leviticus 23:4-5 Exodus 12:1-14 Hebrew

Feast of Passover Passover is a one-day event … it is followed by the 7-day Feast of Unleavened Bread – the Feast of Firstfruits is celebrated on Day 3. It commemorates and celebrates God’s deliverance of Israel out of slavery in the land of Egypt (Exodus 12:14).

Feast of Passover The Lord sent Moses to lead the people out of bondage in Egypt to the promised land. When first confronted by Moses, Pharaoh refused to let the people go. Nine plagues later – blood, frogs, gnats, flies, livestock, boils, hail, locusts, darkness – he still would not relent. “But the Lord hardened Pharaoh’s heart …” (Exodus 10:27)

Feast of Passover Number 10 was the big one: the death of all the firstborn. “each man is to take a lamb for his family … without defect … slaugher them at twilight … take some of the blood and put it on the sides and tops of the door frames.” (Exodus 12:3-7) “and when I see the blood, I will pass over you.” (Exodus 12:13)

Feast of Passover A Seder Plate 3 Hebrew letters: P, S, CH meaning Pesach bitter herbs (Maror) roasted, hard-boiled egg (Betzah) shank bone (Zeroah) greens, like parsley (Karpas) a sweet apple mixture (Charoset) bitter herbs, like horseradish (Maror) A Seder Plate

Feast of Passover Unleavened bread: matzah. Yeast-free, with stripes and pierced. Isaiah 53:5 Matzah Tash – a bag with 3 compartments each holding one bit of unleavened bread – a reminder of the three persons in the Trinity.

Feast of Passover When Jesus celebrated the last Passover before his death, he took the Afikomen, broke it, and blessed it. Then he gave some of the matzo to his disciples, and said: “This is my body given for you; do this in remembrance of me.” (Luke 22:19) The Afikomen The Last Supper

Four Cups of the Passover Seder Feast of Passover Four Cups of the Passover Seder The cup of Sanctification “I will bring you out” Exodus 6:6 The cup of Deliverance “I will free you” The cup of Redemption “I will redeem you” The cup of Praise “I will take you as my own people” Exodus 6:7 Jesus said: “This cup is the new covenant in my blood, which is poured out for you.” (Luke 22:20)

Feast of Passover “The Lord Jesus, on the night he was betrayed, took bread, and when he had given thanks, he broke it and said, ‘This is my body, which is for you; do this in remembrance of me.’ In the same way, after supper he took the cup, saying, ‘This cup is the new covenant in my blood; do this, whenever you drink it, in remembrance of me.’ For whenever you eat this bread and drink this cup, you proclaim the Lord’s death until he comes.” (1 Corinthians 11:23-26)

Feast of Passover Next year in Jerusalem!
