Welcome Eden Project Residential Trip St Sidwell’s Primary School & Nursery (Parents for Years 5 and 6) 26th June – 28th June 2017

Eden

Who is going? 50 Year Five and Year Six children Mr McLeod & Miss Woodhouse Mrs Briggs to visit on one day Mrs Statton Mrs May Mrs Souyad Mrs Bland The children will be divided into two groups per class of approximately 13 children. When larger groups, they will be with their peers. The centre is also run by qualified staff who will be leading the activities.

COGO Travel Fully accredited and inspected organisation – with the LOTC accreditation and members of the STF (School travel forum) Run by education and activity specialists and delivered by fully trained, qualified and experienced instructors who encourage, help and inspire young people. 24 years experience in group travel, COGO Travel Primary offer a huge range of school residentials *across the UK and Europe.

Learning Experience All courses and activities are designed to include many learning opportunities, develop key skills and support personal development. The trip provides a wide range of activities to develop life-skills, build self-confidence and encourage team work. New skills from new experiences and activities. Of course they are great fun too, and the children don’t actually feel like they are learning at the time. Improved communication skills benefiting both in the classroom and at home Developed cooperation skills through social interaction and team challenges Increased confidence, motivation and self-assurance through variety of activities Improved levels of attention and engagement to improve academic performance. A typical day’s events Breakfast- 7.30am and 9am Morning activities from 9.30am Lunch time allocation between 12.00noon – 1.30pm Afternoon activities- until 4.30pm Evening meal time allocation between 5-7pm Evening Session around 8pm Come together in YHA café area- hot chocolate Lights out by 10.15pm See timetables

Accommodation and Facilities An amazing eco-adventure inside the grounds of the Eden Project. The trip will combine fun adventure activities with an exciting Eden Project workshop. All staying in en-suite, high-spec bedrooms made from recycled shipping containers provided by YHA Eden Project (powered by Snoozebox). Sleeping arrangements – girls and boys sleep in separate rows. All bedding is provided and bedrooms are centrally heated. Teachers’ accommodation located adjacent to the childrens’ Bedtime routine – lights out by 10.15pm after a busy day. A unique educational and fun experience they will remember forever!

Catering Facilities Children will be provided with 3 meals’ per day (breakfast, lunch, dinner). Only meal not provided is lunch on their day of arrival. Packed lunch is required. Time slot will be allocated for the dining room. Centre is aware of dietary requirements Catering facilities look excellent

Safety and wellbeing We understand how nerve-wracking it can be letting your child go on a residential visit (for some of you !); we will do everything we can to make it safe and enjoyable for everyone. COGO Safety Management Systems are regularly monitored and reviewed. Fully Qualified instructors Qualified First aid trained staff with two of our TAs-Mrs Souyad & Mrs May particularly experienced and qualified 24/7 on-call emergency contacts * Fire Alarm practise upon arrival Staff in adjacent rooms. Securely locked room doors which only staff can access once locked from inside, using specific key cards Children wearing hi-vis bibs on site Fully comprehensive Insurance is included for both children and teachers.

What to pack Packed Lunch for first day! Medicines* •Suitable Nightwear* •Comfortable casual clothes for evening ( jeans are permitted) •Underwear and socks (plus extra if we get wet) •Towels and a wash kit* •Trousers/ track suit bottoms for day wear (not jeans) •T-shirts and long-sleeved tops/sweaters/fleece tops •Slippers/Trainers/Boots for outside ( wellies/old trainers) •Waterproof coat with hood/ Waterproof trousers (optional) •Hat and gloves •Torch •Dustbin bag for wet clothes- a label on this will help •Plastic drinks bottle and lunch box •Sunscreen •Day rucksack •Reading book /game/camera •Pocket Money -£10 maximum

What NOT to pack Mobile phones/ Smart Watches (Anything to access the internet) Electronic/computer games Jewellery* and valuables Remember to label everything that your child brings with them - Children will be responsible for their own belongings

Other Preparation Encourage your child to have a go at everything they encounter- they should approach everything with a positive mindset and avoid returning with regrets. Encourage them to enjoy the company of their class mates- this will be particularly relevant to Year 6. Remind them that this is a great chance for them to enjoy their independence- they will not be calling home. Although we do not expect any behaviour issues the children will be reminded
