Why the Military? Eisenhower never showed too much interest in academics but always had an interest in the military After graduating Abilene High School in 1909 Eisenhower didn’t really get going in life at all, working as a refrigerator engineer He was appointed to the Naval Academy of Annapolis after two years but was too old, and that’s when he received an appointment to West Point in 1910 Na

West Point, New York Entering West Point Eisenhower didn’t really have any strive of becoming a soldier He went to West Point for reasons of free and higher education Eisenhower was only an average student though, and had to basically give up his studies due to a sports injury Dwight finally graduated in 1915

Fort Sam, Huston, Texas Eisenhower was stationed at Fort Sam where he would met his future first lady, Mamie Geneva Doud He eventually was promoted to captain and moved to Camp Colt, Gettysburg There he trained the men on one of America’s first tank units Eisenhower has not yet seen combat, but was awarded the Distinguished Service Medal for his hard work

High Ranking Officer Eisenhower had almost every big rank that an officer could have all the way up to the President of the United States Dwight became the Commander of NATO in Dec. of 1950 He had too many positions in the military to even count, all the way up to the President of the United States NATO Picture, 1950
