Topic: Stem-changing verbs Essential question: How do I conjugate these new verbs and use them?

Verb conjugating – what do we already know? You conjugate a verb when you mention who does it. Every sentence needs a conjugated verb There are two parts to each verb – the stem and the ending There are –ar, -er and –ir verbs The infinitive is the unchanged form of the verb There are some irregulars

Verb conjugating – what do we already know? To conjugate, you take off the original ending and add the conjugation ending For –ar verbs: -o, -as, -a, -amos, -an For –er verbs: -o, -es, -e, -emos, -en For –ir verbs: -o, -es, -e, -imos, -en Ir, ser, estar, dar and tener are irregular

Stem-changing verbs These are verbs that have a spelling change in the stem when you conjugate them Tener is one you already know. The “e” becomes an “ie” for tienes, tiene, tienen For stem-changing verbs, you will see the stem change in the yo, tú, él/ella/Ud. And ellos/ellas/Uds forms You WILL NOT make a stem change in the nosotros form******
