Prevention of Violence Against Women in Bulgaria

STATISTICS 1 000 000 Bulgarian women are victims of physical, sexual and psychological violence shows the biggest survey made by the Agency for Fundamental Rights (FRA).

How widespread is violence within the Bulgarian society? The domestic violence as a personal rather than a social issue.

PUBLIC OPINION ON DOMESTIC VIOLENCE Every third Bulgarian citizen knows a victim of domestic violence; 5,5% of participants admit that they have been victims of physical abuse caused by a related person; 5% disagreed to answer this question, which most probably puts them in the same group as possible victims;

PUBLIC OPINION ON DOMESTIC VIOLENCE Police remains the main institution to which the victims of domestic violence turn to for help 67 % of people would recommend to acquaintances to turn to police in case of domestic violence.

Process in case of domestic violence The first and most important step is handing a declaration from the victim in a Police Department.
