Pixel 3D Sensor Test Beam Analysis Update Kevin Jamison PI: Shih-Chieh Hsu Physics Elementary Particle Experiment Group October 7th, 2013
Motivation for Test Beam Analysis Develop slim edge 3D sensors for ATLAS Forward Physics Project (AFP). AFP requires sensors that will be non-uniformly irradiated and have great measurement at edges. Test Beam measures performance of these characteristics of the 3D sensor. Pixel 3D Sensor Test Beam Analysis Update 10/7/13
What are Silicon Sensors? Silicon sensors allow us to measure charged particles in experiment. 2 relevant types: planar sensors and 3D sensors. Planar sensors currently used in ATLAS Experiment pixel detector. New 3D sensors offer faster signal time than planar sensors. Pixel 3D Sensor Test Beam Analysis Update 10/7/13

Pixel 3D Sensor Test Beam Analysis Update 2 Test Beam Experiments Fire charged particles into sensor modules and determine where on the sensor hits occurred. Expose one portion of sensor to large amounts of radiation. Measure sensors performance afterward. Pixel 3D Sensor Test Beam Analysis Update 10/7/13
Test Beam Data Analysis Reconstruct paths of charged particles and determine if a hit occurred, and if the sensor measured the hit. Measure how efficient the edge of the sensor is at detecting hits from the particles. After sensors have been irradiated, repeat test beam and measure how non-uniform radiation changes sensors performance in the irradiated region. Pixel 3D Sensor Test Beam Analysis Update 10/7/13
What has been done so far? Reconstructed raw data for run 12470. Ran analysis on data and able to measure sensor efficiency. Successfully able to compile correct version of EUTelescope for SLC5 and SLC6. EUTelescope successfully installed to TeV cluster for future analysis of all data. Pixel 3D Sensor Test Beam Analysis Update Current Status Where is the edge efficiency? Pixel 3D Sensor Test Beam Analysis Update 10/7/13
Pixel 3D Sensor Test Beam Analysis Update Goals Understand why the efficiency for the edge is missing. Create block diagram of EUTelescope code to understand exactly how it works. Locate part of code that is apply some sort of edge selection on the desired tracks. Proceed to analyze more data once track issue is resolved. Pixel 3D Sensor Test Beam Analysis Update 10/7/13
