Building Services Summer 2016 Update August 11, 2016

Environmental Management Department Overview Maintenance Custodial Environmental Management The Department is responsible for the School Division's 26 schools and two service facilities. That is over 2.3 million square feet and 631 acres. Capital Improvement Program

Maintenance Over 40 employees of the Buildings & Grounds Department worked on various tasks including: Mowing/grounds Moving furniture Assisting contractors Carpentry work Electrical work Mechanical work Plumbing work Energy Management

Custodial Services Over 140 Employees Custodial staff and safety staff have been trained to find and remove standing water. This has also been added to our safety inspections. Over 140 Employees Quick turn around of renovated areas to meet deadline of school opening. Detailed cleaning of ALL schools, ceiling to floor. Custodial staff are trained on identifying and removing standing water to help prevent the Zika virus. Complete floor cleaning and finishing. Including refinishing all wood gym floors.

Special Projects

Solar Photovoltaic Panel Installation Solar photovoltaic installations at AHS, Greer, Baker-Butler, Sutherland, Brownsville and MHS Near completion of 1 megawatt of renewable energy (late August completion for panels; September completion for operation) The renewable energy generated from the systems is equivalent to 6% of the total electricity used by the school division. A third party (Secure Futures) owns the photovoltaic systems, and we purchase the electricity. We paid no capital cost for the panels. The electricity will be purchased through our utility account. The portion of electricity generated by the panels will be paid to Secure Futures instead of Dominion.

LED Lighting Performance Contract Developing scope for upgrading to LED lighting in all classroom spaces through an Energy Performance Contract Kickoff Meeting in August with savings estimates by November 2016 Construction expected to begin in early 2017

Mobile Classroom Relocation Mobile classroom was moved from Western Albemarle High School to Woodbrook Elementary due to enrollment growth.

Design In Progress

Woodbrook Addition & Renovation See picture on next slide. Design began in July of 2016 and is scheduled to be complete in August of 2018 (40,000 Sq. Ft addition, $14.7 Million Budget) On September 8, the design concept will be presented to the board.

Baker Butler Security Addition Design began in November of 2015 with Grimm & Parker and is complete.  The project will be bid in early 2017 and construction will be complete by August of that year. Key: Pink- Classrooms Purple- New Addition Yellow- Existing Corridor Green- Renovated Office Space

Jack Jouett Security Addition Design completed with RRMM Architects in June of 2016.  Renovation will begin soon and will be complete in February of 2017. Once the addition is complete, offices will be moved out of the current space.  That space will receive minor renovations and new furnishings.

Ivy Creek Center for Learning & Growth Design was completed in July of 2016 with BCWH Architects. Project will be bid on August 8th and bids will be received on August 25th. The construction will begin in September and will be complete by January of 2017.

Capital Improvement Projects LARGE ROOF HVAC SITE BUILDING CONTEMPOARY LEARNING SPACES

Red Hill Modernization Capital Projects: LARGE ROOF HVAC SITE BUILDING CONT. LEARNING Red Hill Elementary Addition and Renovation design was finished in May of 2016 with RRMM Architects. Construction will occur in 3 phases.  Demolition began before school was out in June.  Construction of Phase 1 will be complete by August 12th.  Construction of Phase 2 will begin as soon as Phase 1 has ended and the final phase will be complete by December of 2016.

Albemarle Modular Classroom Pod Capital Projects: LARGE ROOF HVAC SITE BUILDING CONT. LEARNING The 9 trailers that make up the 8 classroom modular building arrived in July of 2016 and have been moved into place and connected. The grading, electrical and plumbing connections, stairs, ramps and floor finishing will be completed by August 12th. Furniture will be installed the week of August 15th.

Roof Replacements Capital Projects: LARGE ROOF HVAC SITE BUILDING CONT. LEARNING Work completed at: Agnor Hurt Murray Elementary

HVAC Improvements Capital Projects: LARGE ROOF HVAC SITE BUILDING CONT. LEARNING Sutherland Middle received 4 new high efficiency boilers. Hollymead Elementary received a new high efficiency chiller plant. Murray Elementary received new HVAC in 11 classrooms and the cafeteria. Broadus Wood Elementary received a new high efficiency chiller plant.

Playground Replacement Capital Projects: LARGE ROOF HVAC SITE BUILDING CONT. LEARNING Meriwether Lewis Elementary Playground was completed this summer. Baker Butler playground was also completed. (Picture below) Featured on the left is the playground at Meriwether Lewis and Baker Butler on the Right.

Albemarle Student Parking Expansion Capital Projects: LARGE ROOF HVAC SITE BUILDING CONT. LEARNING The new space will provide parking for 68 faculty and staff.

Kitchen Upgrades Capital Projects: LARGE ROOF HVAC SITE BUILDING CONT. LEARNING Western Albemarle High School kitchen design was completed with RRMM Architects in March of 2015.  Construction began during Spring Break and will be complete on August 12th. Meriwether Lewis received an upgrade consisting of A/C, new freezer, ceiling and lights.

Locker Removal Capital Projects: LARGE ROOF HVAC SITE BUILDING CONT. LEARNING Before: After: Design was completed with BCWH Architects in May of 2016 for both Albemarle High School and Western Albemarle High School. Albemarle High School Locker Removal project is under construction and will be complete the week of August 15th. Western Albemarle High School Locker Removal project is complete.

Flooring Replacement & Painting Capital Projects: LARGE ROOF HVAC SITE BUILDING CONT. LEARNING New carpet and painting for Stone Robinson, Crozet, Baker Butler, Yancey, Burley Middle, and Jack Jouett media centers has been completed. New flooring and painting in classrooms at Sutherland Middle School and Stone Robinson Elementary are complete. New flooring and painting in the office areas of Stone Robinson and Broadus Wood are complete. New corridor flooring at Meriwether Lewis is complete. Picture above is the new flooring at Broadus Wood.

Greer Interior Renovations Capital Projects: LARGE ROOF HVAC SITE BUILDING CONT. LEARNING Completed the cafeteria design with RRMM in May of 2016. Currently under construction.  One room and the corridor space was completed as of 8/5 and will be turned over to the school for use this Fall.  The schedule for the remainder of the project is to be determined.

Cale Interior Renovations Capital Projects: LARGE ROOF HVAC SITE BUILDING CONT. LEARNING Design was completed in May 2016 with RRMM Architects. The new design repurposes the old administrative space to include new student work space and new lighting. Currently under construction and has been completed as of August 5th.

Burley Restroom Upgrades Capital Projects: LARGE ROOF HVAC SITE BUILDING CONT. LEARNING New ceramic flooring in 8 group restrooms and new partitions in 4 restrooms to be completed by 8/19. Upgraded fixtures in some locations.

Media Center Upgrades Capital Projects: LARGE ROOF HVAC SITE BUILDING CONT. LEARNING Baker Butler Before: After: New furniture for the Media Centers has been delivered and is ready to be set up before school starts.  Stone Robinson After: Before:

Albemarle 2nd Floor Classrooms Capital Projects: LARGE ROOF HVAC SITE BUILDING CONT. LEARNING Before: After: Classroom renovation will be complete by August 12th to include new ceilings, LED lighting, HVAC, whiteboards, paint, furniture, and additional electrical.

Furniture Purchases Capital Projects: LARGE ROOF HVAC SITE BUILDING CONT. LEARNING Furniture has been purchased and most has been received and installed for 3 Burley Middle School Science Labs (108, 213 & 214). Most of the remaining items will be delivered before school starts. Furniture has been purchased and most has been received for the Western Albemarle High School Math Classrooms (B113-B116, B208 & B209).  It is ready to be set in place as soon as painting is complete.
