Components of Citizenship… Rights, Responsibilities & Duties Act it out! – WHICH IS IT? (1) Freedom to express yourself (2) Serve on a jury (3) Freedom to worship (4) Freedom to run for elected office (5) Respect and obey federal, state, and local laws (6) Respect the rights and beliefs of others Express Yourself = right Jury = Duties Worship = right Elected = Right Obey Laws = Duties Respect others= Responsibilities

Components of CITIZENSHIP Rights Responsibilities Freedom to express yourself. Freedom to worship as you wish. Right to a prompt, fair trial by jury. Right to vote in elections for public officials. Right to apply for federal employment requiring U.S. citizenship. Right to run for elected office. Freedom to pursue “life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness.” Support and defend the Constitution. Stay informed of the issues affecting your community. Participate in the democratic process. Respect the rights, beliefs, and opinions of others. Participate in your local community. Duties Respect and obey federal, state, and local laws. Pay income and other taxes honestly, and on time, to federal, state, and local authorities. Serve on a jury when called upon. Attend school Defend the country if the need should arise.

Pick one: (1) Newspaper Article – Minimum 2 paragraphs. Requires an ARTICLE TITLE and PICTURE. Must be done on 8 ½ x 11 paper (printer paper). (2) Political Cartoon – Must show your opinion in some artistic way. Must have color and a 1 paragraph description. Must be done on 8 ½ x 11 paper (printer paper). Due: TOMORROW!
